Its save / die / load.
Play in your own hardcore like a few of us.. die.. no load.. althought the temptation is strong.
Play "State of Decay" if you want to see real permadeath, any one of your characters dies... they are gone regardless of save game because it saves when you die lol, it's pretty mean but permadeath adds a whole new level of realism to the game.
As stated above, if you die... start again... but since the option to reload is still there then it doesn't have the same effect.
Also in early alpha game, permadeath would suck due to the many ways you can die from a glitch, like being launched into the air while carrying a shark, or getting glitched into the side of a boat or rock and drowning.
Add permadeath when no glitch deaths exist.
TLD.. also very good example of death being final...
Project Zomboid.. Good example also..
Frozen State also.
Anymore any 'survive' game with no perma death is not the same.. but I can totally understand the loading as the EA portion continues.

The save and load buttons are bugs?
Fair to say the warning must go out, if it's not optional they'll blow a big chunk of people off.
Permadeath = don't use save. How hard is it?
BUT:::
Since it has been a save / load flat out changing it now would not be a good thing,, plus leaving it as an option ( Hardcore vs Normal ) would not be a big deal. Please everyone, no harm no foul.
Permadeath has to be *carefully* balanced with ways to die .and. methods to counter or it's just a *can't take risks* grind. Game appears to be made for surviving indefintely and rescue.
They'd blow that on some kind of genre ideology? Not clever.
(and given the propensity of "Settler" types, they'd better do their demographics before committing to PD too....)
Even with permadeath, that save/load feature will probably still be around, but at least I won't be immortal.
As I have stated.. for me... this is a zero survival game. With a save / load death is moot.
But again, I know some people do prefer that, and its no skin off my back or anyone else's if they play an SP game that way.
So on this one, I have to go with the leave it but add a PD option. Keep the whole of the fan and future fan base happy.
Because it has a nasty habit of dumbing games down.
Every survivor game I've played so far simply escalates the danger as you progress. It's that "arbitrary rules to match gameplay" scenario I dread.
It's not the PD that worries me, it's what it does to games. Realism has to be suspended for X hours or Condition Y or we die too fast too often and give up.
TRUE permadeath? Game is erased from your hard drive. :)
