Stranded Deep

Bottom of ocean
So I went to a buoy to see how deep the ocean was.

Do you think they're going to leave it, or do you think they're going to change it to gradually get darker and darker until it's pitch black, instead of light just cutting off at a certain point?

Oh, didn't know, I thought it was more like a gradient instead of just a certain point.

I've tried, even with a torch it still turns to blackness, at least the parts that I've dived on.

yup for now remember they got tons of content to add in yet who knows what they'll change or add in the deep dark...I actually found half a ship hull deep down with a flash light, and inside was a morphine injector, another paddle, bucket (already had 3) and my second lantern. So yea keep looking :)

I dunno if they are going to change that, their official word is all great biomes etc including bottomless valleys. I hope not but then again there are plenty of places in the ocean where you cannot reach the bottom , even in a sub. So fair play really... don't drop anything when down there or over it. I was diving deep because I thought I saw bubbles, turned out to be black, switched from torch to compass... wrong key stroke and compass go bye bye... that truly sucked huge swirly shark nipples.

Yep, after a certain point, the items go completely black, and the torch's light doesn't work..

As I swam deeper, my character got ill for some reason, it wasn't oxygen because I had two air tanks, and it wasn't my health, hunger, or thirst.

Also, if you keep swimming even further down, the bubbles dissappear, which I think
means you've hit the bottom.

So, for now, you can't use a flashlight/torch to see anything in the deepest part of the ocean.

That's what I was thinking.

Also, I think this is as deep as you can go.

Light only penetrates water for a fairly short distance in reality. Granted, it's not instant darkness like that, but honestly it's not really a high concern. Fluff for after core gameplay is fleshed out.

Going into the deep water absolutely terrifies me. I cant do it. Even games like Lost in Blue where NOTHING ever hurts you, i couldn't get past the part where you have to explore the Abyss.

This game, middle of the day, i cannot jump into deep water without getting nervous.

Same xD, I was super hesitant to do it.

The feeling ill thing I think has something to do with depth too, I've notice it come up whatever the weather, and not just when in deep deep water, but on a wreck thats a fair way down, the ones that you need a torch to see even in daylight, I often get the "feeling ill" thing when on those, same as when I dive into the black depths.
I guess it could be a cold reaction, but depth would be simple, a level that you pass and a timer begins, once a certain amount of time elapses you get the message "I'm feeling ill" and whatever effect is then executed. I'm not a dev but I would think that kind of coding is relatively simple.
But if it was cold I would get it after being in the water for too long you would think, without the motorboat I swim everywhere and never get it, only when I've gone deep down.

diving deep down was a terrifying experience for me at first, but then i emerged among the stars

If you are holding your breath, you can dive as deep as possible and come back to the surface as fast as you want. The problem comes when breathing comrpessed air. You are limited in your depth due to oxygen toxicity. You are also limited on how fast you can rise due to the speed at which nitrogen outgasses from your body. So, go too deep and die from oxygen toxicity (you will probably experience nitrogen narcosis before this happens) or rise too fast and get the bends (which you will die from if you can't get to a hyperbaric chamber in time). For those of you who don't know what the bends are, it is when nitrogen escapes your tissues too fast and causes bubbles in your blood stream restricting the flow of blood. I don't know if the devs thought of that but it could be an explanation for you getting ill lol.

No, in the game you get ill (cough) because of the coldness of the deeper water. You can cure it with vitamins or just wait until it's over, this will take a few days.

Edit: Oxygen becomes toxic in a depth of 70 meters (230 ft), but it can cause problems in depths of 30 meters already. Scuba divers use special gas mixes (e.g. Nitrox) to prevent body damage, but normally they would not dive deeper than 18 m (without Nitrox) or 40 m respectively (with Nitrox).

I have my OWD, but I am far from being a century diver, so if anybody knows better, feel free to correct me.
