Motor Boat, Raft and Life Raft Speed Testing
Did some testing for those that are interested.

Here are some reference images.

Tested 6 types of "Boat" transportation. I will expand this to compare against swimming with or without flippers above and below the water, but for now here are the results.

For this test I did 3 laps around my island with each boat type and averaged the time taken to complete 1 lap. Times denoted below are the average of a single lap. I had a friend use a stopwatch on his phone so that I could concentrate on driving..

Yellow Life Raft: 93 seconds
Crafted Raft: 62 seconds
Motor Boat 1 Motor mounted on Back: 34 seconds
Motor Boat 1 Motor mounted on Side: 33 seconds
Motor Boat 2 Motors mounted on Back: 35 seconds
Motor Boat 2 Motors mounted 1 Side 1 Back (Corners): 32 seconds

Tested 2 motors mounted Front and Back but they cancel each other out.

Conclusion #1: Mounting motor on Back or Side does not affect speed in a noticeable manner. Collision Mesh for crafted raft must have a flat bottom even though "visually" it has 2 sticks running on the sides.

Conclusion #2: Mounting 2 motors either on the Back or "Caddy" corner does not increase speed in a noticeable manner.

Conclusion #3: With each "tier" of raft you get a noticeable speed increase. The standard "Wooden" raft is 2x the speed of the "Life" raft. The "Motorized" raft is 3x the speed of the "Life" raft and 2x the speed of the "Wooden" raft.

Enjoy!

This is good info, needs a bump. Thanks!
Do you have the swim reference time?
Propably swimming with the flippers are much faster.
At least I don't use boat, rafts or raft with motor boat, i just swim from one island to another and it seems much better and faster.
Old threads die hard sometimes. Especially the over 'half a year' old ones... :D
