Stranded Deep
Tool belt - how to move tools to it?
I got so fed up trying to build structures in places that weren't occupied by trees or rocks (big or small) that I stopped playing months ago. Started a game the other day, remembered tool belt and have 3 pouches in it, but I can't drag/drop from inventory to slots and generally can't remember how the tool belt works.
Remind me, please?

The tool belt, without the excellent mod by Lazy (https://www.nexusmods.com/strandeddeep/mods/218, in case you are comfortable with mods), only acts as a 'hotkey', to something already in your wheel inventory. You cannot 'store' stuff on the tool belt, and empty your inventory that you see with the tab key/the wheel inventory--not in the base game. Well...not on PC. For whatever reason, for Console players (not Steam, not Epic games) the tool belt works like inventory.

So for me personally, I have installed Unity Mod Manager for Stranded Deep, and the only mod I always have enabled is for the tool belt mod. It's such a quality of life upgrade from the "oh, it's just a hotkey' weirdness that it the base game/no mods tool belt.

You aren't saying that I can't use the tool belt without modding, are you?
All I need to do is put the tools in the belt and know what buttons to press (F1 or 1) to use them.

I'm not into modding. That's the devs' job, if they want a game that is enjoyable for their players.

He's saying that it's not really a toolbelt. It's just a way of assigning hotkeys to items in your inventory. Upgrading your "toolbelt" just adds a couple more hotkeys you can use. Your inventory never increases beyond those 10 slots.
Press 'Tab', hover your cursor to highlight the item you want to assign, then hold down a number key corresponding to the desired slot for a few seconds. Like the others have mentioned, it doesn't "move" it to the hot bar, but makes the item in your inventory easier to access by simply pressing the slot's number key.

Thanks. I finally found it myself. I hold the item in my hands and hold down the number key I want it assigned to. Not much sense in having a tool belt when the tools still take up space in your inventory, though. This has been a complaint for years.

Have the devs stopped working on the game??? It has super potential, but is really not there yet. Pity. :-(

It's unlikely there will be any more updates. Stranded Deep 2 is in development with at least some of the original team.

A few mods make this game much more playable. The previously mentioned toolbelt mod is a must for me. I also use a mod that adds the compass to the screen all the time, not just when holding it in your hand. You mentioned building problems. There is a mod that turns off the collision so rocks and things don't block building.
Do mods disable achievements? For example if you have a permanent compass on screen how does that affect the achievement of completing the game with never using a compass? Can you sort of cheat by having the on screen compass or does modding just disable all achievements
Sorry, but I simply do not know. I only started using mods after I had gotten all achievements.

But... spoiler ahead...
You do not need a compass. If you look (when it is NOT storming), you'll notice that the waves always come from the north, and go south. Since all the compass does it tell you where north (ish) is... you don't really need the compass anyway.

I also do not know an official answer, but I got a number of achievements after installing the toolbelt and compass mod I mentioned above.

However, I also got the no compass achievement, Magnets I think it's called, even after using the compass extensively. Others have mentioned this happening too.

So, if achievements are important to you, I recommend making a backup of your save before installing mods, and then see if any trigger afterwards. You can always go back if it's not working. (I recommend regular backups anyway.)
Are there problems with the server? I can't play online
