Stranded Deep

So when are we getting new content?
I want to be nice about this. But I feel it's been a very long time since anything at all happened with this game.

The game was basically finished (all content added) once they added the endgame content...

Their last step was supposed to be to make the game "online coop" and then release, but the online coop update cause a LOAD of bugs to appear in both the single-player and coop versions...

As far as we know they are working to fix those bugs, but I don't believe there is any more additional content planned for this game.

Wait really?

But... There's almost nothing to do.

Just so you know, I like this game and have put a lot of hours into it. For that sake there is content in the exploration of islands and such. But many of these islands are extremely similar with very little variance. Even the wrecks feel copy pasted.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not looking to be unhappy as again, I do like this game.

I sort of felt like objectives were just lacking. Compare the game raft to it. Not that they are exactly similar, but they are both survival games based on exploration and crafting. Raft has three chapters(They're just finishing that one) and honestly a ton of lore and different campaign style things to do, along with a boat(hehe) load of base building and decorative options.

This game has what, 4 bosses you kinda just sort of find then you just dip on a plane? Am I missing stuff?

Well, raft has a development team 4 times the size for one thing, as well as ap ublisher. Its the difference between an indie studio and one that isnt

There are actually only 3 bosses...

And I get it... I too hoped for a much fuller, richer game.... There's so many things they could have expanded on such as the loom... they have us making a loom and/or tanning rack to craft basic cloth or leather strips, and totally could have implemented clothing / armor / backpack, etc..... They Could have expanded on cooking system where actual "meals" could be made from fruits, herbs, fish meat, pork meat, bird meat etc.... I could keep going for an hour with suggested things that they shoulda / coulda done, but alas, we get what we get.

The game world is visually stunningly beautiful, and it's just a shame that it's probably the strongest aspect of the game... "great looks" with shallow content.

Night of the Dead is a 2-man dev team and they still release regular updates. The Infected is another example. The dev team for Valheim is small (5 people) and look how well they've done. I know they're newer games, but still - its like the old saying goes "Its not the size of your dev team, but what you do with it that counts" ;P

Seriously though, I love Stranded Deep too. I think its an amazing concept for a game and, despite how simplistic it is, it still manages to be addictive and fun. But whenever I play it I can't help but feel sad that it could have been so much more if it had just had a bigger budget or a more dedicated dev team. The potential to expand this game (or even fix some of the persistent bugs) is mind-boggling and its a crying shame that that will never happen. I really believe that Stranded Deep could have been the aquatic equivalent of No Man's Sky or Valheim, or even Empyrion Galactic Survival (another old game that still receives updates) with continued development, but it feels like they decided to just get the basics right and then stop at that. It could have gone so much further.

I can only hope that they ended development on this game in order to begin development on Stranded Deep 2. Or maybe they'll sell the rights to a bigger studio one day and let them turn it into "No Man's Ocean". Fingers crossed!

The DEV team of Valheim abandoned their roadmap almost instantly after making that cash just sayin.....with almost zero progress moving forward

What are you talking about? Aside from their regular patches and updates, they released that big "Hearth & Home" update and now they're working on the new Mistlands biome and a bunch of new content to go with that. Maybe they changed from their original roadmap, I don't know, but they are still very much adding content.

At a snails pace and the abandon of the roadmap was a kick in the you know what to people supporting the game and none of the updates have added much actual gameplay

I totally disagree, but this isn't a forum about Valheim, its about Stranded Deep, so its probably best to leave prolonged debates about that game to its own forum.
I'm betting on them putting out a new update during the next Steam sale. Pattern. Call it what you want.

Any way...

There's a bazllion other games on Steam (and other sites) so you know, pining away for an update on this (fun!) game means you probably need other none game pursuits in life or are missing out on some other hidden gem of a game. :steamhappy:

It's sad that so many of us want more of Stranded Deep. But alas, we're not the devs... and I guess beggars just can't be choosers.

Oh well. I guess be happy with what we did get and also be happy we're not at the edge of our seats waiting for the next upate.

Too bad.

Don't forget the dozens and dozens of custom islands in the workshop. Many of them are very creative with mountain trails, hidden pools, and cave systems. Many have traps and puzzles that yield high value loot if you can figure out how to gain entry.

I agree that this beautiful ocean world could have been expanded in so many way. Don't get me started...
I do not recommend custom islands, there are some decent ones but the majority will either just crash your game, or there will be to little or way to many resources on them so it is incredibly unbalanced and can feel like using cheats. I would love for there to be more to do in this game after a certain point it just feels like theres nothing left to do.

i like raft, i like stranded deep but i like the graphics in SD way more than raft. with that said, its a bummer that there isnt really anything to do i SD. its all just repeat of the same stuff. you can go to nexus mods and download custom islands. some of them are really cool and creative. if only raft had graphics like SD and also a different storyline. i never cared for the cartoon style of raft. plus with raft you get like 5 locations and its over. why? why not 10 or more? its mostly just "ocean" which is like blank space anyway. what do i know though, i dont make games obviously

online play is what it needs.. co-op is cool,, but add online server like dayz. or the ability to play with random people.
"in a perfect world" teaming up with a game like dayz:; adding a new server to the dayz game that directs players to a stranded deep map. some kind of dlc partnership

I don't see the devs doing that anytime soon. Having not updated during the summer sale means the dev team is doing a "when we get time and/or money to do stuff"

I'd leave that to some other ambitious group of developers to take on a similar style of game and make it happen.
