Multiple sails on a raft?
So I build a raft. I put multiple sails on it expecting it to help move faster. Am I wrong to have assumed that? Its harder to control and and the other sails dont move either.

So juding by your guys experience how have you done your rafts?

Also has anyone gotten their life raft flipped by a shark? I did. Didnt work too well either. Is there a way to flip the raft and save myself from dying?

you can only use 1 at a time so the extra ones dont help. Flipping it is difficult to do in deep water, once you get it to shore you can use rmb to flip it by "dragging" it

ahh thought so. Any chance you think they add an autosave ever X minutes function to avoid ppl like myself from like like 30 minutes of progress when we mess something up?

Is there a way to ruin the extra sails? or also a way to transfer a ton of objects at once without numerous trips and attempts while getting lost.

A good idea would add the automatic "climb" like previously so if it does flip. Not a big issue because then you can just climb back on it (:

that doesnt do you much good when you need to paddle it from underneath or the sail is down there.

when i get all the needed parts i usually put a sail up twords the front in the middle as a stear guide and non gas propulsion. in case i run out of gas i dont end us stranded. then i put motor in center on back incase i need speed to get me someplace faster. i usually build rafts big enough i can place a couple of items on it without it sinking. like 1 container wall and 1 container door. plus full inventory to bring to home base. to make my trips with stearing can be a pain. but i got used to bailing at shore n just dragging raft to location. instead of messing around with fine tuned stearing. since raft stearing bites at the moment.

We can place items on a raft without it sinking and falling off? Well that would be uber helpful as I keep getting lost trying to find my new home base that I wanna settle in.

yes we can but there are limits example depending on size of raft and depends on what your putting on it example a raft 5 wide and 5 long placeing 2 steel i beams parts is ok placing more than that and raft is sinking beneath the waves. it's an issue devs need to work on especiall ysince i used sealed barrels for my raft base and a 5 acorss by 5 long square of barrels should be able to float more than that no problem.

it is hard to control the raft with the sail one. how to control that one? please help me.

Actually sailing is very easy as long as you know where the front of your raft is. Use WSAD to steer your raft in orientation to the front. If you cant see your front your base is too small, add a base to the front of your raft so you can see it pointing out. Other solution which i did when I only had one base is to sail backwards and look backwards :P.

This is an idea for the program designer. Lets say a person has a 1 x 3 to a 2 x 3 raft. Extra sails will do nothing for you. However, if you have say anything equal to or up to a 2 x 4 to a 4 x 4 one extra sail will help it go faster. If you have anything bigger then a 4 x 4 then 3 sails will increase the speed. However I would cap it at that. Also the multiple rudder idea I placed in another topic will be needed here as well for this to work. It would allow better control for the larger rafts. ( 2 lashings to connect 2 rudders together up to 3 total witch would of course require 4 lashings total.)

Yeah, it definitely goes faster with more sails. Have only tried 3 so far, but im thinking of adding 2 more, and see how that goes...

Im not 100% sure, but it seems like the placement of the sails affects how efficiently it steers. I believe it becomes more difficult to manuever when i place a sail on the front of the raft... In real life, i think it should be placed around the center of the raft (or maybe 2/5 from the rudder) for the best manueverability...

EDIT: My raft now has 7 sails. 5 wide, 4 long (tapering towards the front). Steering still works fine, so i will probably keep building it bigger. Gotta do something...

BTW... Do anyone know if the trees grow back??? I read something about it MAYBE growing back after a couple of months, but the guy who wrote this had just heard it, and had not tested it out... If it does not grow back, the game will eventually run out of things to achieve...

Young palms grow back, but the larger tall ones do not. I'm testing the idea of having the small pine trees and ficus trees regrowing, but not the larger palms.

That would be nice. Im also thinking about running out of rocks. Without them, we can no longer harvest fiber for the water collector, and then the game (as it is now) is pretty much destined for failure... Would perhaps be better if we could harvest the leaves of the young palms and yukkas by hand, just like with fruits and potatoes. Seems more realistic than having to use tools for grabbing some leaves - and that stone tools gets destroyed from harvesting leaves...

I recently added 5 sails to a 3x3 raft. I did not notice any improvement in speed, but it did, surprisingly, improve the steering. Quite noticeably. The thing used to steer like a brick and now it can turn on a dime.

I have 2 sails on my raft 1 for reverse & 1 for forward it works
