Stranded Deep
asking a few tips
So, I just started the game. After a few attempts, I was able to get to day 20, and now I am ale to survive, apart from animal attacks...

So, I have leaves, wood, food, water "renewable", plus good reserves of stones, coconuts, a few wooden planks, lot of corruggated scrap, a few vehicle engine parts. I have built a wooden raft, 3x1.

I think my next step is getting leather, and then clay? What is the best way to get leather at this stage? For the barrels, how can I carry them? They do not fit in the inventory. Seems hard to pull them on the raft. Also, by the way is they any intelligent way to go up on the raft? I always spend so much time making jumps to get on.

oh and one more question, I was reading a guide for xbox that said do not cut the palm trees on your island so that the coconuts can respawn, but they do not seem to respawn... should I cut them down?

Coconuts do not respawn (at least not on PC, I'm not familiar with console) so feel free to cut down all the trees.
Best way to get on the raft? Hold space.
Leather: kill sharks and boars. They give you about 3 rawhide each which you can turn into leather.
Barrels: build them into a raft base (you can demolish it later, but how much you get back of resources depends on your building level), or remove the floor in the middle part of your raft and use that space to bring a barrel back to your island.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend farming. Especially yucca plants so you'll always have a steady supply of leaves. You can also plant aloe, pipi, the other plants, fruits and potato. Definitely plant potato.....

Good luck!

Rawhide: Shark hunting can be challenging. What I do is either have 4-8 refined spears, or 12 crude spears. Carefully scan your shallow water around each isle, and find either a rock sticking out, a a convenient wreck out of the water--upon which you swim out to, and then stand on top of.

From your safe place, you just wait for a shark to circle you, and from a safe distance throw spears at it. Once your hunting level is up a bit, it's about 4 refined spears for 'most' sharks. If you are giant boar hunting, run into the shallow water. the giant boar (and giant crabs) don't like to go in the water usually, so you can throw spears at them from the safety of the shallow water.

Coconuts do not respawn (unless you have a specific farmable palm trees mod).

It sounds like you've just begun to build your good raft. In case you haven't discovered it yet, remember you can put container shelves on the raft--so you can make a huge barge (if you want to), to travel the world and take just about everything with you. I usually only "settle" to do a bit of farming of potatoes for fuel. Otherwise I'm a traveler. I make a larger raft, usually 3x3, and wander around.

I didn't use clay for the longest time, then I made the furnace and crafted the clay water flasks which hold 5 portions of water versus the leather water flasks that hold 3. I have used them to farm with, thinking I needed to water the plants. I found out that they don't really need that water since it rains enough.

I have literally never watered my plantations and then I learned that there's a bug causing rain to get "stuck" even if it's over and that makes water stills and plantations refill forever as if it would be raining constantly. Apparently devs just gave up and decided to end early access even if game has many bugs.

Ok, I was finally able to make some rawhide. I found the board and kileld them. For the sharks, it looks pretty though. If they aim at you and eat you, you are unable to hit them back...

Anyway, I will now try to carry the barrels to my island, but for now I am at lv 5 crafting, and to get back 100% I need level 7...long way still. I guess I will get just one barrel out of 3 to craft the raft?

How about wooden logs? How can I carry them to my island to use with the log station? Or do I need one log station per island?
wooden logs: you can put 1 log per slot into crates. however... what I do is just bring everything I need with me to build a plank station if I'm looting an island to make planks. You can break down the plank station, and get almost everything back except a few sticks. It's very efficient.

So if you are on a "I want planks" run, travel to an isle you are going to de-forest, and make the plank station there, and make planks. You can then stack planks 4 deep x 5 slots in a container, instead of just 5 logs. It's much more efficient than dragging logs back.

I just whack my plank station with a refined knife to break it down

If you are open to mods, Cat just recently dropped a fun mod, 'bringing back' (aka, re-enabling) some of the old content from very early versions of this game. The mod is "new", so it needs more players to find issues (and report them) so Cat can improve upon it.
