Currently, in order to obtain drinking water, you have to boil the salt water (like you are doing) but you ALSO have to make a water collector to place on top of the fire to actually collect the water. Inside this water collector contraption, is a place to hang an empty "drinkable coconut" above the boiling seawater bucket to capture the drops of water. Or if you are so lucky as to have a second bucket-- put a second bucket above the boiling seawater and you can capture five "drops" of water.
There is another type of water device, a solar still. It is very slow, and I never make one until i have my (boiling sea)water collector going.
If you're just boiling it, then you're not getting rid of the salt from the water. It's still right there in the pot. You'll need a water collector, as shown above.
Now personally, I hunt hard for buckets and such, and got a bit lucky there on my island. I have multiple water stills set up, along with the water collector.
I have a water collecter (pictured above) but whats the deal with sea water? I thought you could boil it to make drinking water? (I know its not realistic, but hey) has this been patched now?
Boom! Thank you! I hop this works!
I was counting on soley boiling sea water... not really helpful.
Thanks folks!!
lol.... how do i boil water then to drink?
"useful for collecting and cooking seawater"
yup, that works so well
have to use a collector to evaporate water........
Ummm actually common sense is, if you boiled sea water you would end up with a bucket of salt. lol

They had that originally, for sake of simplicity, but really, in a survival situation, hydration is your biggest factor, and having it be that simple to get potable water basically ran out the single biggest obstacle for survival.
So what happens is this: The first bucket boils the water, which rises as steam til it hits the tarp. From there, it clings, and rolls along following the path of gravity. When it gets to the bottom of the tarp, this is where the second bucket comes in. It'll sit right where the dribble off will occur, and boom, clean cool water.
They're actually planning to have salt be a thing in the game, for preservation of food, but haven't quite worked it out yet. When it is, what should happen is that the top bucket will be filled with potable water, while you get usable sea salt that has collect during the process.
