Stranded Deep
Do resources wash up on shore?
I've explored a few islands already and picked them clean, but when I return for like coconuts and things that regrow, sometimes I find scrap/planks on the shore. Do these regenerate or have I just been really bad at pillaging islands?

I've noticed this too, but I usually think I must have missed that.

It does seem like I get some random rocks, sticks and occasional scrap washing up.

So in terms of scraps/rocks, we have a limited supply? Right now without an open world, the only way to get more of something like that is to swap in a new map tile?

That's pretty much the only solution. It would take a while to exhaust the entire map of resources though, personally I've never done it.

It seems like there aren't many scraps though. It takes four of them to make a foundation. So if I wanted to build with the scaps, I'd run out pretty quickly.

With update 00.11.00, washed up materials were reduced. Especially scrap IMO. This was due to the new focus on water collection, I think, and since we were out of the building test phase.

Whatever spawns now seems random. This makes sense, as there was way to many materials lying around, just waiting to be transformed into a seaside mansion.

Maybe in the future we'll get materials that randomly wash up on shore, which would make sense for some of them.

Wait. So are you saying that resources do wash up? You said no before, and now you're saying things do spawn/wash up, but it's random and less than before.

It definitely feels like there are a lot of rocks washing up. Sometimes I see a ton of them. But I could swear there's the occasional scrap too because I'm pretty thorough with picking clean an island.

there isno mechanic for adding new resources to and island via washing up at this time. However some of the resources are considered washed up due to their nature based on the initial spawn. language ambiguity at its finest

This.

I was a tad ambiguous in my explanation, my apologies.

So in terms of things like rocks/scraps which are not things that naturally "regrow", those respawn in the game?
TouriStarr May 3, 2016 @ 9:45am
Look at it the other way; only some food resources do respawn (and Yukka plants). The other things you can use are generated only once and are limited. But all of this is part of gameplay balancing too. At this early stage, the game provides a lot of them for testing purpose.
Hope that helps and I am not wrong about that. ;-)

The only things that respawn are coconuts, yucca, potatoes, crabs, and fruit that you plant. The fruit you have to water of course.

All materials that can be found, sticks, rocks, scrap, etc. do not respawn.
