Stranded Deep

Worth it?
So, I just finished Raft with a Friend of mine and it was a blast, we both love these Type of Games. Sadly, the Raft Story is finished and now we're looking for another Game that is somewhat similar to Raft.

My Question:
1. Is Stranded Deep worth it?
2. Is there enough Content as Newcomers to enjoy for enough Hours? (20hrs + i'd say)
3. Is it even Coop? (not Splitscreen)
4. Can you also Build like in Raft?
5. Any Gamebreaking Bugs? (we dont really care about Bugs in General, but Gamebreaking ones are a nogo)

Thanks for Answering.

  2. That really depends on your ability to be creative since it really doesn't have much content on its own
  3. They did add coop, but also broke a lot of things in the game, for some it works decently and for other not at all.
  4. You cannot build on your raft, but you can build houses and crafting stations on islands, the building system is very simple, but works ok.
  5. It probably depends on who you ask, some will say it works ok and is playable and some will say it is a mess, personally I quickly dumped the version that added coop since it was buggy as hell(Yes you can luckily choose to play older versions of the game)
Stranded Deep is not really anything like Raft, they are 2 very different games, while Raft has a ton of content and things to do, Stranded Deep is very shallow in content and mechanics, but you can create your own islands + in my opinion it is the only castaway game that gives me a vibe of being stranded on a tropical island, and it has good graphics and lighting to set the atmosphere, but if you expect anything remotely close to Raft, then you likely won't like Stranded Deep :)

Co-Op is full of game breaking glitches.
I am just going to leave this here. It has almost every known bug all in one episode.....

If you hang in there, great things are possible.

I'd say no, not at this point, and probably not in the future. Was never properly finished, and the last update of any kind was ~9 months ago. That says a lot about where the game stands.

I have to wonder at some peoples math, it's still 2 days before we even hit the 8 months mark and they are already saying 9 months lol

I stand corrected, it's one month shy of 9 months without an official update. Still doesn't change the fact that the game *looks* abandoned. 8 months without any kind of update or patch.. it's just not professional.

They are aiming for 1.0 with the next release, not the first time they've taken that long for a major milestone

In his best Southpark Canadian voice: "I'm not your guy, buddy!"

In all seriousness... it takes 5 minutes to post a status update, let everyone who pays their salaries know where things stand.

They did, in May.

Prior to the 1.0 *just* today, the last news update on Steam (where I purchased my copy) was January 10th. That's -not- May. If one was posted elsewhere it should have been duplicated out here.

Taking a look at the 1.0 release notes it's a tiny amount of changes for a 8 month stretch, other than the Unity update which I can't personally speak to (sometimes they are heavy, sometimes not). For those of us waiting, the 1.0 is a bit disappointing, and the lack of communication in the meantime was unprofessional. That's all I have to say on it, no amount of discourse will change my mind as an owner of Stranded Deep.

Which brings us back to "is it worth it", which I think I already answered. It's now up to readers to make up their own minds based on YT Let's Plays and the content of the Workshop. The fact that 1.0 was released with so few changes, and there's a note that stability/bug fixes are still to come.. leaves me with my original recommendation.

They have a pinned thread about the fact they AREN'T using steam for communication anymore, if you choose not to actually find out what they were doing thats on you *shrug*

As an investor in an Early Access game, I shouldn't have to "go hunting" on the web to find out the status of my investment. It should be given where the game was sold. That's on them.

You AREN'T an investor.
You are a customer, with no more rights than any other customer. You have made no investment and are not going to get investor updates.

Do you also go to walmart to complain when they don't post game updates there?

How about Epic, a store that also doesn't have any updates to its users about game development?

Given that I gave money that was used for the promise of a complete game in the future, with absolutely no guarantees, it was a gamble (as all Early Access games are). The "investment" is me trusting that the promise will be fulfilled, and that a better product than what was available at the time the money was given would actually be produced.

So yes, from a technical and literal perspective, it was an investment. I invested (like all other EA people did) in the production of a game. It's no different than the Publisher/Developer drumming up secured funds at the beginning of the game - someone had to kick in money to pay salaries and asset royalties with. That's called "an investor".
