Eating sardines?

I've caught many sardines, I've built a campfire, I've even built the smoker but for the life of me I can't do anything with sardines. I can't eat them raw, I can't place them on the campfire, and I can't seem to place them in the smoker.

How do I eat sardines in SD?

You need to craft a refined knife to skin them first.

How exactly do you skin them? Do you just drop them on the ground and hold the refined knife in hand?

Yes, there should be a prompt to "hold E to skin" just clicking E will pick them back up.

Sucn a shame, could be really fun with some instruction.

I used to stop at the lake where I live prior every morning before going to work, catch all kinds of things like bass, trout, catfish, and the older fishers there would clean it and cook it for you, didn't really need to skin it of scales and it cooked up so nice.

I figured with crabs I'm removing the shell, didn't think I'd need to do it with fish. That was my line of thinking anyway.
