You can swap back and fourth between slots as much as you like, with different maps and different progression on each slot.
And how does one save in single player mode ? Free and manual ? Auto-saves when you don't want to ? Activated checkpoints... ?
A few versions ago (I forget when), it used to be you could save 'in the middle of the ocean', by dropping a bed on the raft floor... but that hasn't been the case for a while.
1 save per save slot. I don't recall having corrupted saves, ever. The worst I've heard (from other players, I've never done this), is making the mistake of saving when you are just about to die... i.e., bleeding and poisoned, and broken leg.. 1/2 a health left... and of course, when you restore that save, you don't have time to make an antidote, bandage, eat/drink, make a splint...and you just die almost immediately. In that case, yes... you shouldn't have saved and should have quit WITHOUT saving (yes, you will have lost your progress since the last save), and then restarted from your last save point.
Game does NOT auto save, never has..
Has only ever saved when you want to save..
Never had a corrupted save in over 2,300 hours of game play..
It's even worse than I thought.
