If you're early game and you get poisoned, it might also be a good idea to rather restart if you're not yet ready to handle it.
The game has a way to make you force adapt to how hard it is, but once you adapt, it's just no challenge at all. But that is where the real game begins. You can define what you want to do. Are you a shark hunter? A base builder? An explorer? Or are you content with converting your little island into a tropical paradise? Will the sharks you kill become full life statues, decorations of your accomplishments?
Anyways, poisoning is the easiest way to die in the early game. This is mostly for two reasons -- you need pipi to make an antidote. Second, you need level 2 crafting to make antidotes.
So, your immediate priorities are: make shelter (to save), then get crafting up to level 2, then make an antidote (if you have pipi), then make a water still.
The quickest way to get crafting up to level two is to make a couple of knives or spears. You're going to use them anyways, eventually, so they won't go to waste. If you don't have pipi on your starting island, just be careful when you go into the water. Sea urchins and lionfish are usually easy to avoid if you're paying attention. When diving, try to avoid the seafloor unless you can clearly see sand. The reason is because sea urchins can be hiding in reef/plants or they're clipped into a rock and barely sticking out. Lastly, you should build foundations over sea urchins so that you don't accidentally step on them. Do this later though because it takes quite a bit of resources. Also, the sea urchins sometimes move when you reload a save, so you might need to take out your ax, destroy the foundation, and rebuild it. If you want to be efficient, you can build a dock for your raft over a sea urchin -- double functionality!
