Cannot restore SPF

I built a shelter with a roof using foundations, walls, and a door frame with no door yet.
I need to cool off and funny enough standing inside my roofed shelter it provides no protection from the sun.

Do I need a door, floors or maybe a brick roof? What am I doing wrong exactly?

I don't know, but I do know that if you put a floor on top of the walls that your UV goes to none. Swimming underwater will also cool you off. Personally, I build a wood shed with an awning over my work area. The wood shed is 2 stories tall to avoid hitting my head on the awning due to sand hills, etc. Now, the wood shed was made obsolete when they introduced piles for wood sticks. But it had other uses. One, as support for the awning. Two, the combination was very visible for up to an island away. Three, it makes a great gyroport. I still put the wood stick piles in the shed because it is convenient. See picture below:

thats some very fancy floating squares. Yeah I should use some sort of covering while I'm working.

They are not floating. They are attached to the other floors. Due to the nature of this I even tried to build a bridge to the next island. No joy. The game will not let you go much further than the end of the reef, plus I never figured out how I could get down and back up at the other island. Just call me Pierre the bridge builder.

Sorry my eyes deceive me. Not floating. There is some sort of support that can handle the squares where physics don't apply. got it. Yeah I guess ill retract my floating statement.

Yeah good luck with building a bridge. thats a lot of deep water to cover.

I take back my not floating comment. I forgot this instance while tearing down a temp mapping tower. Apparently once placed, it needs no support.

Not a fancy awning comment, but one for cooling down. In my first base I had four plant beds with aloe. Harvest was plenty until I moved to other islands to build more bases, when I returned they were all rotten. Anyway. You don't need to make that sunscreen with two aloes and one bottle, just eat one aloe and you're fully protected for a whole day. I still have a container completely filled with aloes and there's usually at least one on every island.
