online multiplayer is still in testing and isnt available yet so theres no way to really give you a review on that, you "could" use steam remoteplay, but its still splitscreen for that so not worth a seperate purchase right now
I swear these devs take forever to get their ♥♥♥♥ together. I rage quit this game when I bought it over a year ago. Started playin it again and it's a really good survival game now but Splitscreen MP? Why bother just don't do it. I know MP can be one of the hardest things to do ...Ahem FO76 LOL but seriously WTF were they thinking?
As for splitscreen gameplay in general, there are a lot of people on this forum who actually enjoy it a lot. You really shouldn't mistake your preferences to be those of everyone around you.
Also you're the only person of all the "a lot" of people who thinks split screen on PC is cool.
I'm assuming you are one of the "a lot" of people who enjoy it, right? what games do you play like that on pc?
Steam Remote Play essentially streams the game to a friends pc, so you can either sit together and look at the same screen, or I could have a game with a friend who's sitting on a tropical island (just to make it clear though, your friend doesn't necessarily have to sit on a tropical island, he could sit anywhere as long as he has a working pc and internet connection).
For the simplest explanation the current multiplayer is split-screen co-op play...which involves 'multiple' players albeit just two sat at the same monitor, or using Steams 'Big Picture Mode' via large screen television/projector/monitor. (I like games on the projector to be honest).
It is possible to play online using Steams remote play feature as well through the internet, but the game does remain split-screen of course and still requires one player to have a controller while the other uses keyboard.
This means only one copy of the game is actually required, on the host system.
As said above, currently, online co-op is being tested on the X-Box version (via the X-Box insider program) with the developers saying that it will be coming to all versions of the game in the future.

Hope that is basic enough that it helps.
No, no they are not and although it is difficult to quantify what 'a lot' means there have been multiple posts on the forum by people who enjoy the split-screen co-op. (aswell as a few bug reports in the past too of course).
Not that I have to justify myself to anyone but just for funsies here are the current split-screen games I have in my Steam games list with the split-screen label.

Can't say I have played all of them, to be honest, and I know there are some others that don't show up under that filter, as well as a couple on other people's computers (including my partners) I have had the good fortune to try.
There are of course quite a few others on the Steam platform you can find using the filter system in the Store to look at either 'Local Multiplayer' and/or 'Local Co op', I am sure if you are interested enough you can browse to that part of the store though if you are interested.
This line kind of sums it up for me really:
Cosmo and Fred
