Stranded Deep

How's multiplayer?
I really just want to know how it's done. Local hosting is what I'm looking for. My 9 year old son wants to play with me so I'm thinking about buying him a copy but if MP is a pain or doesn't work well I'm gonna skip it. I'd like to play local host him on his PC and me on mine.
We do that on a few games but some the local hosting is a mess, so I don't wanna get involved with that again. any help would be appreciated.

at the moment splitscreen is the only multiplayer option for the Pc version, so if you hook up a controller, you and your son can play without needing a second copy right now.

online multiplayer is still in testing and isnt available yet so theres no way to really give you a review on that, you "could" use steam remoteplay, but its still splitscreen for that so not worth a seperate purchase right now

Oh man that is the stupidest thing I have heard lately LMAO. I'm assuming you mean if we play MP on PC with 2 copies we could each play on our PCs but still see it in split screen on our monitors?
I swear these devs take forever to get their ♥♥♥♥ together. I rage quit this game when I bought it over a year ago. Started playin it again and it's a really good survival game now but Splitscreen MP? Why bother just don't do it. I know MP can be one of the hardest things to do ...Ahem FO76 LOL but seriously WTF were they thinking?

You only need one copy of the game for splitscreen coop as it uses Steam's Remote Play together. As Flux already mentioned online coop is in testing and will be available when it is ready.

As for splitscreen gameplay in general, there are a lot of people on this forum who actually enjoy it a lot. You really shouldn't mistake your preferences to be those of everyone around you.

@omen3608 I should've been clearer. I meant on PC. If I was still playing on console with my kids, yes I mourn the passing of splitscreen but on PC? I'm not so sure. My question didn't get answered so I don't know, are we talking both players have to look at the same monitor? or both players have the split screen on their own monitor? How does someone play Stranded deep without having stranded deep installed on their PC? If we are talking about both players having to look at the same monitor, I know of no one who has their PC set up for that as in where ya gonna sit and what K/M you gonna use etc. So I stand by stupid.
Also you're the only person of all the "a lot" of people who thinks split screen on PC is cool.

You are totally wrong there. I personally don't like splitscreen at all in most games, that doesn't change the fact that there are a lot of positive voices about it being implemented as well. :P

Steam Remote Play essentially streams the game to a friends pc, so you can either sit together and look at the same screen, or I could have a game with a friend who's sitting on a tropical island (just to make it clear though, your friend doesn't necessarily have to sit on a tropical island, he could sit anywhere as long as he has a working pc and internet connection).

The information is all there, although I usually only need the basics then I use that to go on and educate myself so it may not be so simple I guess.

For the simplest explanation the current multiplayer is split-screen co-op play...which involves 'multiple' players albeit just two sat at the same monitor, or using Steams 'Big Picture Mode' via large screen television/projector/monitor. (I like games on the projector to be honest).
It is possible to play online using Steams remote play feature as well through the internet, but the game does remain split-screen of course and still requires one player to have a controller while the other uses keyboard.

This means only one copy of the game is actually required, on the host system.

As said above, currently, online co-op is being tested on the X-Box version (via the X-Box insider program) with the developers saying that it will be coming to all versions of the game in the future.

Hope that is basic enough that it helps.

No, no they are not and although it is difficult to quantify what 'a lot' means there have been multiple posts on the forum by people who enjoy the split-screen co-op. (aswell as a few bug reports in the past too of course).

Not that I have to justify myself to anyone but just for funsies here are the current split-screen games I have in my Steam games list with the split-screen label.

Contagion
Dirt 3
Dirt Showdown
The Escapists 2
Fotonica
Gears 5
Grid 2
Lego Batman
Lego Batman 2
Lego Batman 3
Lego City Undercover
Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4
LEgo Harry Potter Years 5-7
The Lego Movie
Lego Lord of the Rings
Megabyte Punch
Painkiller Hell & Damnation
Renegade Ops
Resident Evil 6
Rock of Ages
Serious Sam 3
Sonic & All-Stars Racing
A Way Out
Worms Ultimate Mayhem

Can't say I have played all of them, to be honest, and I know there are some others that don't show up under that filter, as well as a couple on other people's computers (including my partners) I have had the good fortune to try.

There are of course quite a few others on the Steam platform you can find using the filter system in the Store to look at either 'Local Multiplayer' and/or 'Local Co op', I am sure if you are interested enough you can browse to that part of the store though if you are interested.

This line kind of sums it up for me really:
