Can't craft a pile

I can't seem to craft a pile of anything. I've tried holding the item I have 2 or more of, or just looking at them on the ground and using the quick craft menu, but I never get the option to quick craft one.

Anyone got any tips for this please?

What items did you try? It doesn't work with everything.
Stones, sticks, logs, fronds, leaves will work, things like planks or scrap won't.
If you have 2 of them in inventory, take the first one in your hand, then quick craft should definately work.

Thank you. Yeah, I was trying planks and scrap - thats why it wasn't working.
