Stranded Deep
Toolbelt/clay farming need help.
Recently made a toolbelt pouch 2 and cant bind any tools to it. I am guessing it doesnt help with freeing up inventory space carrying tools?
On the clay side of things that isnt an unlimited source is it that respawns after so many days/hours? How far out on an island do i need to swim down to find it? Eventually my plan is to make a decent sized brick base however if there isnt an adequate amount of clay is it even possible without mods?

The toolbelt on PC does not free up space (on console it does.) Point to an item in inventory and hold a corresponding num key, that should bind it.
Best to go for clay is start searching next to wracks, often they're close (had one even spawn IN a wreck yesterday). Amount seems to varie from island to island, sometimes they're covered and not visible/mineable. Getting lots of it takes some time and lucky finds.
Dunno if they respawn, though, but i doubt.

Unless the devs changed it, the clay on every island can be found on the S to SE part of the island(in the water of course). It doesn't respawn that I know of so if you want to build big you will have to grab some custom maps.

But it can be done.

XD
Yikes.
I'd not even do that if somebody would pay big. I assume you still hear those hammers in your head at night?
Thanks everyone

The numbers at the bottom of your screen correspond to the total number of tool belt slots available to you once you've crafted all of the tool belts—which is 10 slots. The more you craft, the more slots you have available for use: For example, after you craft the first tool belt… one slot becomes available to you—which means you can assign one item for quick access to your tool belt. As you craft more tool belts, more of the slots will unlock (up to 10). The numbers are locked to the numbers at the top of your keyboard. So, if you want to access the item in the #1 slot, press the number 1 at the top of your keyboard.

How to bind items into the slots: There are two different ways to do this...

1) Hold an item in your hands, and press (and hold) the number you want that item to bind to. Remember, you have to have that slot/number unlocked to use it.

2) Go into your inventory and point at an item. While still pointing, press (and hold) the number at the top of your keyboard that you want that item to correspond to.

I usually use the tool belt on two occasions:

1) When I go into the water, I bind my spears so I can quickly access them if a shark appears.

2) When I'm cutting fibrous leaves at night, I bind to my cutting tool and a light source.

If you have a programmable mouse, you'll be able to access your items much more quickly by sending the command to one of your mouse buttons. This comes in handy when you're suddenly attacked by a shark and need your weapons immediately.

BTW, these tool belt slots do not give you additional inventory space; all they do is give you quick access to items that are already in your backpack.

As for building BIG, the new large maps provide an awful lot of clay in the world. My current project is a 3x3 tower that is 42 stories tall at the moment, but their are very few islands left to get clay. It is nice to be able to see it nearly 3 game hours of sailing away from your home island. Though I don't recommend it; you can do better than custom islands for more clay (or scrap bricks) . Use the console. First press the \ key to start. Then type "dev.console true" (not the quotation marks) and hit enter. You should get a message of success. then press the / key. This should bring up a big list of nearly everything available in Standed Deep. It is aphabetized; so go to the spot of the item that you desire. Click on it to highlight. Then there will be a button on the bottom right. Each time that you click on it; the item that you highlighted will fall to your feet. The list does not always make sense. Such as a lashing is called rope coil. When finished, press \ again. then click on the regular view screen to return to the game. Hope this helps. I used it to do a joke using a dead (ragdoll) Great White shark.

I also used a hollow core building technique and reuseable wood scaffolding to minimize the number of bricks needed for each floor. I got it down to 16 bricks per floor and an ungodly number of axes to reuse the scaffolding!

When you say new large maps is that a mod/community feature that can be added to your game? I am trying to play vanilla with no extra help but obviously in future i would have to try extra maps. Is there a way to do this? I need to finish the main game completely before i get carried away but appreciate all the tips : D

I've included picture from my cartographer. This is the standard world for 0.74 (seed 84089840) vs. the 5x5 grid you may be using now. Obviously you will need to learn to navigate. The curser in the picture points to my home world. For moire info, see the 0.74 update.

I'm sorry, the curser didn't show in the screenshot.

The most current stable build of the game (vanilla) is the larger map by default... If your map is 5x5 you aren't on the latest updated stable version.... Go to Stranded Deep in library > right click> properties> Betas> on dropdown menu select "Opt out of all Betas" to have the latest updated stable version of the vanilla game. (Large map including end game content)
