Stranded Deep
coconut milk/flesh does NOT give you diarrhea
drinking coconut milk or eating coconut flesh does not give you diarrhea, so stop making the character immediately ♥♥♥♥ himself as soon as he eats a coconut. diarrhea also does not immediately drain your body of all food and water.

And saying it 'doesn't' is different from it 'can', and can is different from it 'will'.

the quantity in game that gives you diarrhoea should not in the real world unless you have a bad case of IBS or lactose intolerance. i'm lactose intolerant and can still drink and eat coconuts and many foods with multiple cans of coconut cream in them without feeling anything. but yes it is a balancing aspect, although only being able to drink 2 coconuts without immediately getting punished is a bit overboard.

TL:DR you'd have to eat a lot of coconuts to even have a chance of getting diarrhoea, the ingame character is the type of person that thinks ketchup is spicy
Less than you'd think if you are relying on it solely, especially in an environment where you are going to be dehydrated from the heat and salt in the air.

same goes for any food really. I can eat apples every day without a problem. eat two apples in one day and nothing else and it wrecks havok on my intestines XD found that out the hard way last week :P

I think the most important thing to remember is, it's a game.
Carefully balancing your food intake eliminates the problems of getting sick, the trick is to not rely totally on coconuts.

you might want to tell all those doctors, nutritionists, and pacific island dwellers they are wrong.

Good luck
first link has zero information regarding coconuts and diarrhea.

Second link is using coconut oil in which using a copious amount of it and using it all day every day can cause diarrhea.

third link tells you that drinking too much coconut milk or eating too much flesh can give you diarrhea but it's not a constant and is more common in people with IBS or lactose intolerances.

fourth link goes over the health implications of using it as a medicinal treatment and drinking too much of it again can, not will, cause an upset stomach.

Drinking 2 coconuts worth of milk will not immediately make you defecate and give you diarrhea, apart from the fact it takes 4+ hours for your body to even react to it.

But yes they need to have it in the game to balance it out, because god forbid if there are more than 3 crabs on an island then that's just too easy. and no you cant live off 2 inch long fish. But as cosmo said it's a game. a survival game that is more about exploring and fighting monsters than survival.

I'm glad we can agree then that the statement "drinking coconut milk or eating coconut flesh does not give you diarrhea" is incorrect then

the quantity that you eat in game would not give you diarrhea yes, but does anyway.

i was thinking the same but even if mixed with normal water and food your body still hates it. never heard of an apple intolerance before, wonder what your body hates about it to do something like that

I'm diabetic, and the types of fiber in apples interacts badly with my medication. It's less of an intolerance and more of just a vagary of my body chemistry XD coconuts have nearly 4 times the dietary fiber so I have no doubt I'd just get WRECKED if I an significant amount of the milk, or more than a little of the meat

That would explain it. i knew a mate that was diabetic and would buy a few bags of lollies to eat then he'd just up the insulin amount for each shot to balance it out. I should start eating coconuts again, might be fun to see how many i can eat before i'm either full or my body gets the ♥♥♥♥♥ with me *ba dum tsss*

Heh I am very careful with what I eat so that i don't end up needing insulin XD so I pay very close attention to the various aspects of food. Can't have a lot of milk, have to keep my high sugar fruits and vegetables to a minimum, minimize my red meat intake. As much as I loath them leafy greens must be eaten XD though beans and peas make great staples.

And of course I keep that box of oreos for those times when my sugars drop just too low heh

Sounds like a big pain in the ass having to watch everything you eat, i can see how hard it is since i've had a few friends who are the same. the only thing i've found i have is i'm lactose intolerant but even then full cream stuff either doesnt do anything or is just a low stomach pain. no clue whether that is part of the fact pain is different for everyone or my lactose is just bipolar.
