Remove Snakes
Is there a mod or something to remove snakes? I hate snakes, makes the game unplayable to me

Soro,

If you use good tactics, snakes become much more manageable: The best way to kill them is to wait for them to curl up and stop moving; then you have a stationary target. If you try to kill them when they're moving, it becomes more difficult. At least that's what I have found.

Also, keep your distance. If you get too close, they will strike.

Third, use a refined spear—which will make it a one-hit kill; if you use a crude spear, then it's a two-hit kill.

Does anybody else have any snake killing tactics that they can share?

Snakes (and sharks) are the only two animals in the game that present you with any sort of challenge; if you remove them, it's going to get pretty boring for you. Just my opinion.

To say it makes the game unplayable is a bit of a stretch. I find the snakes to be exciting!

Every island has at least 1 snake apart from your starter island. Just go on that premise whenever you go to a new island and look for the snakes and kill them.

Once this is done the snakes wont respawn for a long time so I find it a very nice addition. In fact, I would have preferred MUCH more dangerous animals on islands. After all, it is a survival game and at the moment, the game is so simple as it is.

Try going to options, under General, and set snakes to passive. They won"t bother you then!

I'm not sure this is what he meant.
Some people with arachnophobia can't play games with spideys in it, maybe it's like that?
Setting snakes to passive may not be what he's searching for.
I don't think it's possible to actually remove them, maybe ask in the mod subforum?
Maybe it could be done by replacing them with a different animal?

Punkerich is right, it's not about killing them, it's about a phobia. Thx anyways, maybe a mod will come one day.

Doesn't the passive option turn all mobs on passive?

Soro,

Sorry, I didn't realize this was the issue…

This game may be an opportunity for you to get rid of (or at least reduce) your phobia: Read up on "systematic desensitization." Basically, you expose yourself (for short periods of time) to your phobia—and slowly (over time) you increase the amount of exposure time until you reduce your fear.

Doing this in real life would be more difficult; however, in a video game it may be easier for you.

Just a thought; not sure if it will help… But, you may want to give it a try. Good luck!

I too didn't even consider phobia's and it is a really good point!

Yes, there is no option to turn only snakes passive. All or nothing. I played with passive animals my first week, and it was boring, to tell the truth. Now I'm an accomplished snake hunter :D
Best way to kill them is, as you say, refined spear, which is the most powerful weapon. The other weapons require 2 hits, and the snakes mostly become furious after the first hit, so not a good idea because they might come after you.

I think there is a mod that removes snakes; have a look at Nexus, most mods are listed there.

I have found the easiest way to kill snakes is with a refined spear as above said. The key is to make them curl up and become stationary. Normally, you see a snake because it moves. If you see it, steadily but causiouysly directly approach the snake. Your presence will cause it to curl and quit moving. When it curls, quit approaching. Make sure when aiming the spear to aim very slightly above the head. Its never failed for me...

I was just about to suggest this exact same thing.

This might be one of the best ways possible to get over your phobia, I'm not saying it'll be easy but think of how much you'll appreciate this game for having helped you get over or at the very least reduced the severity of it.

It would be great if you could get rid of his phobia in such a gentle way. But I have to say, if there were cockroaches on this game I wouldn't even start it once, so I don't think this is an option.

What you can do is to ask a kind island maker to help, and eliminate snakes in a version made for you. You can even do it yourself, in some islands; it's not complicated.

The little original islands have no snakes, so they are safe as well.

And there are at least 2 islands in the workshop that have no snakes at all, they are the Island of Dreams and Ikea island. I am sure there are others, but right now I can't think of the names.

A pretty cheese way of spotting them (the hardest part, I think) is to turn grass off in your graphics options. Unless they're hiding in/behind a rock or on the other side of a hill/incline, you should be able to see them a million miles away -- or whatever your draw distance is.
QueenPixxa Nov 7, 2020 @ 6:31pm
I play with grass off, and it's equally difficult to spot them, at least in my experience with the two options. But my sight is not great.

If you want i can make you a Assembly-csharp.dll with just passive snakes.
