HOWEVER; since that was written, the locations for custom maps extraction has changed for version 0.76 and higher. this section in that link:
"Uncompress the archive into the folder shown:
- For Stable branch: Extract file into folder: \..\Documents\Stranded Deep\Data\Editor\Maps
- For Experimental branch: Extract file into folder: \..\Documents\Stranded Deep\Data\Experimental\Editor\Maps"
note that location has changed since 0.76
I play the experimental branch, so for me my downloaded and extracted custom maps are in here; if you aren't playing experimental branch, you may have to adjust this location as well to match what not-experimental location might be (I'm guessing it would be ...Data/Maps, and you might need to make the folder "Maps" but that's a guess)
C:\Users\<You>\AppData\LocalLow\Beam Team Games\Stranded Deep\Data\Experimental\Maps
Your next question I suspect will be "but where can I get downloadable custom maps"
DeezNuts generally makes his maps downloadable:

You can also check out NexusMods, people frequently upload their custom maps there:

me too, mine was disk F\Stranded Deep\Stranded Deep Data\Data\Default Maps. it didn't work for me too!
