Killing hammerhead harder than tiger shark?

I recently started anew with this, and my starting island has a hammerhead shark pestering me. I remember being able to deal with the old shark more easily than this thing. I keep poking at it with the spears, and even throw spears into it, but the thing just wont die.

My hunting is at 2, if that makes a difference.

Beginning of a game when skills are still low it usually takes me 10 or 11 regular spears(i throw them). Once I make refined spears and level up a little bit, I kill the hammerhead and tiger both with 4 spear throws. If I remember right, it takes 3 refined spears to kill either of them at max. hunting level.

Does throwing do more damage than not?

I’m pretty sure stabbing does 10 (basic)/20 (refined) and thrown does 20/40
