Yes, the Devs have made their money with the game, when it was new. Over the years there were some bigger waves of income when more people started joining in the fun but I think since 2 years, it doesn't sell that much anymore, so don't expect the Devs to continue doing anything with this game. Well, I totally can understand them, since who really is actively working on a project for more than 6 years without getting frustrated about it or even hating it? I guess they have abandoned the game and rightly so. It hit 1.0 and (despite the many multiplayer bugs) was meant as a single player game. As such it functions perfectly well.
I think they did mention adding multiplayer at some point in the past so not entirely sure the statement "was meant as a single player game." actually holds water.
Edit: Oh, I remember now, it was before it even hit Early Access and was still only in Greenlight.

Exactly, but as a game dev myself, I know adding multiplayer to a game that was built on the fundament of a single player game is like adding 100% of the total workload on top.
So cudos for them actually implementing the Multiplayer.
