Lusca strategy: the bed
If I use to bed to save on my raft when anchored at the Lusca buoy, will it still be there after I'm killed and respawn? Also, if I "take" the bed after saving, will it be on the raft when I respawn? It's a hassle to have to trek out from the nearest island for each foray.

Yes, it will work. Just don't save too far away that you save on the border of two islands(in the ocean), you will lose your raft. Save as close as possible. After loading, first pick up your bed.

Thanks, so much, for the advice! I think Lusca in experimental is harder than in the basic version ... I was able to avoid its attacks by staying next to the buoy ... but in 72.00, it still grabs me ...

Thanks, again.

I thought the bed had to be on ground to place it.

No sandman, but it just got worse with 0.72.01. It used to be you needed to be within the vicinity of an island (never had a failure, so don't know how far); but now, you practically need the raft to almost be beached. A real pain. When diving, I used to sleep through the night on my raft near the drop off. Also, when I was lost or wanted to confirm my location, I would get nearby to save and quit to look at the cartographer, then continue. No more. It is a change that I am unhappy about, nor do I know why it was necessary to change it.

Forgot the first question, I hope the buoy counts as an island; but even then, you'd practically have to touch it with the raft. Sorry, I am quite irritated by the change; thus the rant.

For me, it's doubly frustrating because I was cheated out of the endgame in the PC version, even tho I'd defeated all the bosses. I also wonder about the tentacles of Lusca in 72.00 ... when I stayed next to the buoy it would swim close but not grab me. Now, it does ...

Seems that the buoy counts as an island, at least I were allowed to save when I dropped the bed on the buoy (I didn't try to drop it on my raft while near the buoy since I tried to drop it on my large raft before reaching the buoy and it almost cap-sized, didn't want that to happen again).

Unfortunately, I lost my bed (guess it sank, but I didn't check when I reloaded), but at least I got to load :) Which I needed since my mouse buttons stopped working mid-fight...

PS. Dodging seems to be the way to go. I did get dragged into the ocean a few times, but I were able to outswim the squid and get back to my raft before it bit me.

Yes, I lost a bed overboard, too ... I try to stay in the water with my back to the buoy but the current seems to pull me away.
In the current stable version Lusca is pretty easy as long as you immediately dodge after damaging it. I had no problems with it while attacking from a 3x3 raft.

If the raft is large enough( 5x3 is large enough, but never tested other sizes ), and it is touching the buoy, no problem on the save or sleep - you don't need to be on land or buoy. And, you will not lose the sleeping bag...

I found Lusca a lot easier while fighting close-combat in water instead of the various youtube examples. Take breathing pot with you and bandages.

Would be nice if the bosses didn't insta de-spawn upon death, - so you can get your spears & arrows back at least
