Choosing the best Island

Its been over a year and half since I played the game but started a new game in the experimental branch. There has been a ton of changes since I last played but really enjoying figuring it all out. Glad the Devs are still working on it and they keep demonstrating their commitment to it. But I am interested in how you guys chose your home island. I spent about 8 days on the starter island before I left on my raft. Also downloaded some of the community created islands but have not added any of them to my current game yet with the cartographer. The one im using now is Freeboot island. it is a custom i made and havent put up on the boards yet. I will usually choose one of my custom islands and place it somewhere on the map that i have to navigate to. I also put some of my low profile islands (custom) around it so it looks more isolated. The low profile island have hardly anything on them and are harder to see. No trees and such. My home islands will not have a lot of loot and i generally wont cut down trees on it unless i have too. I go out and bring wood and things back. This is the one im using now:

I will be putting it up as soon as im through testing it out. Look at Grampy's , Skirow, Herja, Agoork and a few others for more.

I usually only spend the first day on starter island, quickly gathering the essential resources, looting all the shipwrecks for crates and then head for the largest Island I can see from there... Sometimes, I spend the first night there and leave at day break...

I never have any intention of making starter island my base, so I don't linger because with the rations on the raft, theres enough food/water to last a couple days but after that, need to have water stills made and so forth, so I head for the largest Island I can see and generally that becomes my base... Unless using custom islands, any large Island is about as good as any other... As soon as I arrive I look for the "dangerous" animals that are likely there especially the snakes, and it's easy enough to take care of all the aggressive critters with crude spears... After the Island is "safe" I get busy with the tutorial quests ( I never build any of the tutorial structures on starter Island, instead, I save those for "home base Island" where they are needed )...

Once the Water still(s), shelter and fire pit / smoker are up and running. it's (pardon the pun) "smooth sailing" from there.

Love Hideaway. I use all 4 of Agrook's islands.

For my run through, my home island was one that had a very large shipwreck that made it uniquely recognizeable at a distance. It also didn't spawn any giant boars.

I place my own 3 custom islands in the first ring around the centre island, and sometimes add a few custom ' workshop ' islands at random. I then live on the game generated central island, raiding the rest for supplies. Most of my playthroughs are more (non creative mode) building oriented than survival these days.

I tend to do the place custom islands near the first one and just get there as soon as possible.

At the moment Im having more fun designing islands than I am playing the game (I just wish we could make bigger islands without going a bit square or circular LOL).

Custom island or the starter island are best imo because the starter island has no land animal threats and customs islands don't respawn land animal threats.

Having boars or snakes moving about my base island seems very non-homey.

I spent most of the afternoon today working on a custom Island which I placed in the centre of the map in my current game. Appreciate all the feed back to the post and thank you guys for your thoughts. I have managed to arrive at my custom Island with a raft & lots of resources. But a question I have is will the sharks around the island still respawn if I kill them.? The other question is can you pacify an island of dangerous wildlife and they not respawn?

I just set up a world map that i think is pretty neat. I found where i wanted to place my home island. It is near open areas on the map. I then placed my Atantis Islands (I, II, AND III) and my low profile islands all around the home island. The Atalntas islands are all partially sunken and with the low profile islands which are pretty bare it gives the feeling of being in an area that was hard hit buy a storm. The Atlantis islands do have some loot but you have to dive and fend off the sharks. The low profile islands are pretty much rock and sand and not much to loot. If you add Bermuda Pit it is deep diving for shipwrecks and a challenge. It has a good challenge and a good feeling about it.

Have you found away around not getting achievements on custom islands? I want to make my own (not op) but I want to get those missing ones

The starter island is ideal. It’s in the center of the map, so equidistant to everything.
