Yes thanks, I'm aware of that. I'm specifically speaking about waiting it out as my supply of Pipi plants is very low and I haven't been able to plant more yet so I was hoping to this one time get away without having to use it.
On my first try a few days ago, I got poisoned literally when I stepped off the life raft for the first time (those purple starfish things). I didn't know anything about the game at the time and had no choice but to leave it. I looked up being poisoned and found a forum post from 2018 saying that it lasts 3 days / 72 hours. After about 3 days I healed and it was fine.
After playing the game for a bit, I restarted, this time I ended up getting poisoned a few days into my game. No problem I thought, just sleep it off and you'll be fine, well, eventually after roughly 3 days I was in really bad shape and decided that I'd row back home as I couldn't find a Pipi plant on the island I was on. I made it only half way back home before I died, in the middle of the ocean.
I had to restart my game as my save was too close to death. It was fine though, it happens. Now, on this playthrough, I've been poisoned a few times, I just ignore it but get my anti poison ready and then when I'm at about 2-3 bars, I'll drink up and heal up. This specific occasion though, I got poisoned just as I was finishing up on an island. I decided not to heal but rather to try out the 3 day thing again as I knew I wasn't going to get injured at any point.
Well as I say, that was 4 days ago and I'm down to my last bar and while I'll use one of my last 2 Pipi plants to heal up, I was really hoping to be able to pull through with some forum advice :)
As mentioned, you can make antidote using 2 pipi and a coconut flask.... I would advise getting a garden plot or 2 (or as many as you can "afford" ) and start growing a couple pipi plants asap.
That's interesting because they specifically note that the total damage you'll suffer is a little more than 7 bars (i.e. you WILL die) and that by sleeping, you're able to pass the time without losing health, thereby starving off death if you ensure you sleep enough.
Anyways, thanks for the info, definitely lots of conflicting info, would be nice if the devs would weigh in.
hehe, have fun with that, I have no idea what happened, it must have been a snake or lion fish or something because I was out at a wreck with my raft and had just killed a shark and was dragging it towards the shore and just suddenly got the message, middle of nowhere.
I just kept swimming regardless as I wasn't too phased, I was done with the island and was at full health so I knew I wasn't in any danger of losing more health than the poison would do.
What I did:
I made sure I had plenty of meat cooked up and also I have 3 water stills (so plenty of water)..
At about 7am I found a purple starfish and stepped on it to start the poisoning...
I stayed right by my water stills and made sure that my food / water bars stayed full and never let them lose even a single bar... (= maximum healing potential)
Waited until 24 hours passed and then stopped the experiment.
out of the 7 health bars, 2 1/2 bars went away, which means that by 48 hours i would have lost 5 bars and with only 2 bars remaining, would not have made it to 72 hours.
THAT was with prime, optimum conditions, giving every opportunity to heal or, at very least, slow the poison as much as possible, and it wasn't enough... death was certain without using an antidote...
Speaking of antidote, I see the recipe has changed from 2 pipi + coconut flask to now being 1 pipi + flask,,, It's very likely they nerfed the 72 hour "wait it out" mechanic that used to work, and now obviously doesn't anymore.
You mentioned trying sleeping through the nights, which also didnt work, so it looks like the options are: use anidote, die, or go back to your previous save (prior to being poisoned)
