Best Rudder placement
Hi,

From all the info I've learnt, it seems you should place your rudder in the center of the boat. I started a small raft where the rudder could only go at the back and it was fun.

I then expanded my raft and built it like an O with a whole in the middle and a rudder inside it but now my raft feels quite sluggish and not very turnable.

Any advice on Rudder and Sail placements would be appreciated.

Hi Storm, unfortunately, the bigger you raft, the slower it gets, and the more difficult it turns.
I place my anchor at the very front, then my rudder between 1st and 2nd base. This is to have unobstructed view. Thomlovessue places his in the center for pivot point. Ultimately, it's what will work for you, main thing is, the bigger the boat, the slower it gets.

Ok, so I've got 2 rudders now and they work great. One rudder right at the back, in the middle of the raft with a "reverse" sail on the same plank. That way I can reverse away from any island I come across. My back anchor is also on the piece next to me so easy to raise/lower the sail and anchor from that one position when I'm ready to leave the island.

My other rudder sits in the centre of my raft with two forward pointing sails to my sides. That makes forward steering a breeze. I have a lantern in front of me so I can read the compass at night (and find my raft around the island) and also an anchor in front of it so I can easily drop anchor when I'm diving wrecks or hunting sharks.
