Expolding barrels

I had 3 barrels lashed together, then, when I need them to make a raft, I hit the barrels, broke the lashing, 2 of 3 disappeared! I've had that happen with tires but have always been able to find the tires. Getting the barrels from a deep wreck, dragging them one by one to shore, hassled by sharks ... a lot of work for naught. What happened and will the barrels reappear later?

That happened to me once, but only lost one barrel. On a lark, holding my hammer and a lashing, I looked at t he two barrels and tried to craft a barrel raft base. It worked! Why, I do not know. And next time don't drag the barrels to shore from a deep wreck. Start to craft a raft base in the wreck, but don't final click it. Swim to your raft, and final click it to your raft. The partial "ghost" base will eaily go with you when you swim to your raft. Also works on tyres, as well as sticks to save inventory space...

If you attach it to your raft temporarily, can you break it and keep all the barrels later? Once my raft gets a certain size, I still like to hoard stuff for no good reason at all.

i think you have to max out harvesting to get all the resources back

Maybe both? Don't know. I always max out harvesting first, but I do know that you don't get everything back until you max out crafting ability
