Raft Questions
I'm on console, if that matters.
I've built up a 3X5 raft, with a rudder centered on the back and 3 sails at the back corners and right in front of the rudder. However, I can't turn the thing hardly at all. I've had to resort to jumping into the water and pulling the front around manually, then jumping back in and going straight. Do I need multiple rudders? Is the raft simply too big?

I was trying to make it big enough that I could go out exploring and not have to worry so much, so I wanted to build a water catcher thing on the raft, but I can't get it to build there. I also wanted to have wooden crates for storage, but I can't build any walls or shelves on the raft either. So right now, I just have 5 crates dropped on the top of the raft. But that worries me, cut they like to shudder and move around tiny amounts, and I'm worried ill catch a wave and have them slide off. Are there other ways to build things on rafts, or do I just have to keep returning to an island I've already built a water catcher on, for good water? I could also bring the raw materials and just keep building new ones on each island, but that sounds like a lot of materials.

It just takes so long to get from island to island, so I was really trying to not have to keep coming back to a "home base" if I could avoid it.

The "home base" is the way to go. As for the raft, here is a starter design that must be credited to MythN7.

Make your 1st base (any material, but wood is probably all you have available). Put a raft base floor on it. Add an anchor. Put it in the middle of a shallow area and drop the anchor (now it won't float away and you can add others to it. Put a sail on it going away from the anchor. Attach another base on the left (anchor in back). Put a floor and rudder on it. Though not really sea worthy, you can use as is to get to another island. You need 5x3 minimum to make sea worthy. Add another base left of the rudder base. Put another sail on it, pointing the same way as the first. The next base may be a surprise, but put it in back of the anchor base (yes, the anchor will still work!). Put a floor on it ( the game might fight you but persist as the floor is temp white before red).

CONTINUATION:

Now that you have a floor on the base behind the anchor, you can put a container shelf on it. You will need 3 plank scrap. This will firmly hold 3 containers, even if the raft flips. The next base goes behind the rudder ( yes, the rudder will still work)! Even though you can persist and get a floor on it, don't do it. When you get to the point of a 5x5 raft, then we'll examine it. The next base goes left of the one behind the rudder. Put a floor and container shelf on it. You now have a raft that is 3x2 that can safely hold 6 containers. Only storms and really big sharks can flip it (and of course you). If you want to go 3x5 for a raft that can survive big storms and sharks. It goes like this: going counter-clockwise from the forward left base (all with floors), base & sail going forward. base and container shelf. Next, in back of the one you just did is base and container shelf. And then clear across the back for a total of 5 bases with container shelves. then a base with container shelf in front of the last one. And then finally, on the right front a base with sail going backwards. Steering is reversed when going backwards. This raft will be sturdy, hold 27 containers, be able to transport items that do not fit your backpack like tyres or dead giant hogs on the base without a floor. These items must remain centered to transport without you becoming a shipwreck! Also, you will be able to see where you are going and reach all sails and anchor without letting go of the rudder. Have fun, and if you have more questions, just ask...

I played this before on PC before container shelves were available, now I got it for Xbox and it seems as though there isn't a container shelf option at all! :o
My boyfriend and I have looked through every category and can not find it. I wonder if it is something they will patch into the game soon as we can not travel with all of our containers to another island safely without it. If anyone knows where it is buried please let me know!

I've heard that the PC version is not exactly like the console version. But no container shelves? That just doesn't roll on my mind. Try under the crafting menu and then furniture. It was the 3rd option down.

Also, I forgot to mention. I always carry a repellant in my backpack while travelling. That way, I can always unflip a raft without worry from a shark ( they like to hug you with their teeth)!

My mind just isn't what it used to be. In the "old" days, they carried containers in that center section. If stacked on edge, you can carry 7.

Also when it comes to rafts on console your 3x2 idea doesn't work. Unless I'm missing something on console when you try to add the section behind the anchor or the rudder it remains red the entire time for the platform itself sadly.

Unhappily, people have explained to me how to share a screenshot, but they use terminology or references that I do not understand. Like pasting something, but never copying it. Otherwise, I would be happy to do a screenshot. And if Synicle Jester is right, it kind of destoys the whole design. I guess that you could go minimum 3x5 and leaxe no bases behind the rudder and anchor. Then you would need to make a special raft to carry the items that don't fit in a backpack. The original design by MythN7 was 9x9 or more. It still could steer well with the front rudder.

Would building something like below be an issue? The front middle 2 without lines under them being the original spot for rudder and anchor.

Ok, let me try.

First of all, the so-called Steam Overlay has to be running in the background while playing:

Right-click Stranded Deep in your Steam Library and choose "Properties". A window opens. On the first tab ("General") you will find a checkbox "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game". This has to be activated.

Now you can take screenshots in-game using the F12 key.

After closing the game, the Screenshot Uploader should open. If it doesn't, click "View" in your Steam client (upper left) and choose "Screenshots".

The Screenshot Uploader shows you the screenshots on your disk. You will have to upload them into your own Online Library. To do so, select a screenshot and click "Upload" (you can mark several screenshots by holding the Shift or Ctrl key).

After finishing the upload(s), click "View Online Library".

In your Online Library you will have different possibilities to get to the links that lead to your screenshots. The easiest one is to right-click a picture and choose "Copy Link Address". Directly after this you can paste the link here on the forum.

Feel free to ask if something I wrote is unclear.

Just adding here that you do not have to close the game to access the screenshots menu. If at anytime you want to open it, go to your steam library window, click View, then Screenshots. Follow the rest of the steps as Skarmo provided.

Thank-you skarmo and once again ArcBiter

This is a view of my 5x5 set for dive operation. You will notice that the rudder base is floored with a light post on it. There is a 2nd light post in the mid-rear. The back container shelves are empty to hold containers that I find while diving. There is a canopy over the rudder base. The engine was for backing up in the original design. I'm going to chop it out as it does nothing for me. In the far right forward base is a sail set for backing up. It's a lot easier to use than the motor. I watched the videos in case they taught me something. The main problem that I have with it is 1.Insufficient storage to "locust" an island ( remove and transport everything of value from the island in one trip and 2. Has no central spot to carry things that do not fit in a container space.

Oops, I did something wrong. You can see even Screenshots that I took months ago. Oh well, you can see my veranda to hide from the sun and my 13 story tower that is still in progress. But I only have 2 islands that I can get clay from so it's almost complete.

You're right. My head just exploded. There are no container shelves on console. I really don't understand. That makes the unfloored base absolutely mandatory. Going between islands and only bringing back a maximum of 9 containers worth of material is bananas. Now, I've already told you that the unfloored base can hold up to 7 containers. Now the smallest raft that I have ever seen, that still had an unfloored base was literorally a cross. 1 infront, 3 wide in the middle, and 1 inback. I also saw on an ancient vidio, a guy who used arrows to keep things from shifting. I tried it pre container shelves and it works - sort of. You must be very careful about tipping or any sails being deployed while anchored. I even thought about using more than 1 unfloored base, but I never tried it before finding out about container shelves. I pray that the final version for PC does not have that problem. From my screenshots, you can see how helpful the container shelves are. My 5x5 when set for land operation can hold the equivalent of 153 backpack spaces! Thats alot of coconut palms. Also, you can bind sticks together as raft bases and tow them home by attaching them to your raft and then axing them off when you get home. That also applies to tyres and barrels. Its especially handy when trying to get tyres and barrels out of the bowels of a big ship. The "ghost" of the raft base can go through a mouse hole. When set for diving, I always carry a hammer and lashings for just that purpose. When carrying items in the unfloored base, multiple sails (3) will speed your trip up to 3 fold. I timed it in my original time trials. Top speed is capped on sails, but multiple add force to break through resistance from weighty things in the unfloored base, raft size, and waves. Always be very careful about centering everything. I remember losing 3 barrels once because they started to shift and practically flipped my raft. I only was saved by them falling into the ocean and being lost forever.
