Should only consider rain to be a little added bonus, but you have to continue to produce your own water via water stills (feeding leaves into it).
When you want to grow something in a garden plot, DON'T water the plot completely full BEFORE you plant... for some reason if you plant something in a plot that is completely full on water, the water level drops to almost nothing as soon as the seed is planted... It is better to plant the seed and THEN add water (fill it up)
Once you plant something, water the garden all the way up, and that will be plenty of water to take it all the way through harvest,. I noticed that during the plants growth -life, the plot will only lose somewhere around 1/2 the water (half the full circle)you added at the beginning
Once you harvest and the plant resets , add more water, as needed, to fill it back up to full, and it will again be plenty to carry it through harvest again.
Always check your gardens prior to leaving the island for resource runs, add more water if you think you will be gone for more than a day... if the plot runs dry, the plant will die.
I usually craft and maintain 3 water stills JUST for drinking water... If I start gardening, I add 1 more water still for each plot i set, dedicated just for watering the plot.... this is how I do it, and it works out great.... you may prefer a different set up.... Good Luck
I agree, it should fill everything when it rains.
