Your method of killing sharks
I'm curious to see the different methods everyone uses to kill sharks. Arrows? Ax? Spears? What works best for you?
Also, don't you hate it when the kill shot sends the shark flying into the unreachable depths? Lately I can't get any great whites because they've tended (for me) to be in deeper waters and as soon as I get that last shot in, they fall fast and avoid my attempts to catch it.
I'm curious what the most popular method will be based on this informal poll.

Well actaully.. since a few updates ago Reinfined spears do most damage, It takes about 5/6 to kill a tiger shark... ( I think speaking from experience ) I usually either man mode and just mele then with a spear or I go onto my raft and shoot then with a bow or throw spears at them... I also tried to kill one with a knife just for fun... that ended bloody :steamhappy:

Back in the day before I realised the aquatic creatures around my island were not what I thought they had appeared to be I used to use a knife, or even a stone shard just to try and get one up on a certain maybe robotic type person or other.
Anyhoo, I soon realised they were, of course, highly intelligent and pacifistic pacific pertinent porpoises.
They were just terribly, terribly misunderstood due to the psychological effects of having the wrong moniker, this has become more and more of an obvious problem as time has passed, I do my best of course but it's like swimming up a hill without a boulder ...or something.

Haha! Seriously stupendous sea-dwelling sharks swimming suspiciously, smoothly scare me!
For me, I usually use the refined spear (I think it's 4 refined spears for a tiger shark?) because it does seem to be the most effective. I put I think 8 arrows and 2 refined spears into a great white and it was still moving!

in one of my custom maps i made a shark blind (deer blind) that works quite well. gotta have air to stay underwater, and either spears or speargun. just settle in and piss them off. only problem is gettng them out of the water without losing your cajones:)

Spears and an arrow for the final blow.

petrus_arne - About the sharks flying away once killed - It seems this happens (to me) when they are in shallow water and 'clipping' the bottom or sides of the world with the last hit. Got one the other day and it was clear of the ocean floor and the island banks, and it sank peacefully down to the bottom. Any else find this is what seems to happen - or am I smoking something....?

Yep @nobbers happens to me all the time, although I usually fight them in the shallows. Have seen a lot of them fly away off into the deep water never to be seen again. I always try to make sure for the final hit I am pointing inland, that way they fly onto the island.
My preference is the bow :)

Good idea. You've obviously been able to launch one on the kill and have it land on the island... that can't be easy. Someone stated they saw them despawn after the kill/flying act.... so I've never really bothered to go and see if it/they can be found...

Based on this and what others have said, I see I'm not the only one. That's so frustrating when that happens! One last shot, you think you've got a kill and a ton of meat (and now rawhide) but nope, the shark flies off into nowhere land.

I hope you're safe there!!! I would be so paranoid about my backside. That's cool though and I like how you have your lanterns all set up there too :)

yes they will not swim in. it is enclosed and back is against stone wall. like i said the hard part is retrieving them. i need a good dog
Finnjvl Dec 13, 2016 @ 1:21pm
With bow or pressuregun. Shot em so much arrows u can and if shark goes away, it always comeback another time and then u can finish that kill. I use same tactik with snakes and boars, if you lose em its useles to run and find em, soner or later you see your pray in right place...

Tiger shark needs 3 refined spears or 6 arrows. I lure sharks into shallow waters so I can actually drag the body out. I often build in water a platform so I get a better overview, otherwise I throw my spears / arrows from a raft.
