Raft canopy?
In the patch notes of the recent update a new "raft canopy" was added. It said it helps create shade for the raft. Question is; is this useful in any way? IIRC sunburn was removed a while ago, with no plans of being re-added?

Thanks!

If they dont re-add those effects on the player, then not only raft canopies -but house building remains a pointless excersize. Id like to think the raft canopy suggests they are about to re introduce the effects of sun burn and rain on the player. because if not, the raft canopy is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

There is sunstroke so far as I know on the main branch... You use aloe salve to prevent it, or cool off in the ocean water. Shade doesn't seem to be a mechanic yet though, as buildings or shadows don't help, and the sunstroke effect is simply based on temperature. It does seem to be a seasonal effect, so it is cooler and not likely to get it during the winter months.

Really? I thought sunstroke and sunburn was removed. last time I played which was around November, I did not see any sunburn and have not seen anything in the patch notes about it. Interesting. :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure they were removed too, when Beam removes something you never really know if its coming back or not. But in this case I suspect it will. otherwise WTH is with the canopy.

That is exactly what I am thinking. It would be pointless to add a shade canopy if it was useless. So, I assume the sunburn or sunstroke will be coming back.

These were taken like 15 minutes into game on the main branch (and most that time was re-rolling new worlds to find a summer month). I don't know about experimental builds, where the raft canopy is new. But sunstroke can be a danger on Day 1, and the player will have to deal with the challenge. It seems to be just heat related, so dipping into the ocean midday will cool you down and "cure" you, but remaining too hot on land will trigger it again. Shade or being under a roof does not yet seem to be a factor. By the end of the day, it can heal itself too, with the sun going down, but while the sunstroke affliction is active, you will dehydrate and hunger much quicker than normal.

They did remove sunstroke for a bit, but its been back along time, pretty much all of 2018 I think. so yeah, the canopy prevents sunstroke while traveling.

Hmm, I always thought it was removed. that's sort of funny because last time I played I did not see a single hint of sunstroke. Maybe that's because I was often in the water, or cooling myself down? Don't know. :)

Can confirm sunstroke is in experimental, got it last night while playing. Being in the shade will bring your temp down but doesn't seem to cure it.

Confirmed shade will cure sunstroke, as long as you stay in it for a bit. Both times on experimental I’ve gotten sunstroke the UV was very high with a temp around 105F.

How long did it take to get sunstroke, and is the canopy even worth crafting since I'm rarely on the raft for more than 1 game hour? (Usually traveling between base islands)

Maybe about 1 hour in game time, give or take a few min. I built 4 wood foundations, when I finished the 4th I had sunstroke. In game time was around 11:30 am-12:00 pm, temp was around 110 F, high UV. I don't have a canopy built, I took shade by a high cliff on the pine island I call home. I have a hut built and I'll build a canopy to test on the next high UV day.

I think the sunstroke is more to do with the UV than the temp. While in the shade I noticed the temp rise .1 every 5 sec, with a high of 114 F. After 1:30-2:00 pm the trend reversed -.1 every 5 sec and I had no problem being out of the shade.

i could be that your playing in winter time, the time of year affects the speed of sunstroke. look at the watch in the top right and see if it says v high, high, med etc. if its low then you dont get sunstroke. in summer time you also get heat waves which last a few days.

You need to be opted into the experimental build in order to "test" the new content.
