Honestly, though, it would take a long time to distill fuel in real life as well.
Also, I think the key is to get more than one plot of potatoes growing. Once you do, you'll have more potatoes than you will know what to do with. I have two going, and I don't have enough jerry cans to contain all the fuel I could produce.
That said, it would be great if you could discover full cans of fuel on shipwrecks, or a tanker full of gas that you could siphon. It's more likely a large ship would have leftover fuel than, say, fishing spears.
You're correct that the game currently lacks a real end goal - I enjoy it mostly for the ambience and beautiful graphics.
I have the same; I enjoy it greatly because of the relaxing atmosphere. That's also why I felt the fuel/motor idea lagging. It gets me from A to B quicker, but to get me going I need to do a lot of work (refill the fuel distillery, plant potatoes, etc.) but the best thing about the game to me, is just sailing on the ocean : )
Same here! The way the sun and moon light plays on the water is so well done, not to mention the ambient sounds of waves, surf, creaking timbers, rustling sails, etc.
It's funny, because I'm a total landlubber in real life. The idea of really noodling about on the open ocean in a tiny raft made of sticks scares the crap out of me. :)
