Can't Find Clay

Been to several islands so far and no sign of clay yet. I know they are in the water but checking every rock in and out of the water serves me no luck. I've tired swimming with the pickaxe in hand hoping something would highlight and I've seen nothing so far. At this point I'm about ready to go into the assets and just turn the minning rocks bright pink or something so I can find them!

Is there something I'm overlooking? Am I just being unlucky?

It's hard to find at first, you have to get pretty far out and deep down, bring a pickaxe and you'll find it eventually:

They can be pretty deep, usually just before the shelf that drops into the depths around each island. They're brown rocks of the same model as the on-land mineable rock nodes. Usually if you find 1, you'll see at least 2 more in close proximity. It can be a chore to fine the first one, I usually just use a repellant and then swim laps around the island, going a little deeper with each lap.

they can be deep but will also be close to shore, not too deep, the trick to keep in mind is, the clays will always be in group around 1 side of the island, usually there 48 clays on every island allthought i have found 54 once, so about 8 clay bolder per island, dont swim too deep they arent really hard to see unless they are hiden by rocks or sometimes a bit inside corals and stuff, so once you find 1, scout the rest of the area meticulously they arent really far 1 from an other, just need a bit of patience
