Difference between gauze and bandage?

since you can make bandages from totally 100% respawnable items, is there a reason to make and store gauze? does it do something bandage doesnt?

Last I remember, bandages only stop bleeding while gauze will also restore health lost from bleeding

ok, ill try to use some gauze at some point to test that.
I just killed the big squid, and did notice that bandage would heal like 2 bars of health, but could only be applied IF you were bleeding.

Oh, well if the bandages do heal you when you're bleeding then I suppose there is no difference

Don't worry, you're not missing out on anything. If I remember correctly, gauze also only heals 2 health units while you're bleeding so it's exactly the same effect as bandages but for far more (and rarer) materials.

I don't know about the healing effects but the two fruits can be used for food and that is about 5 bars. It is hard to use the fruit for food because you have to wait to get low on health and you can't store it because it goes bad quickly. I wish you could use the fruit to make fuel.

Not really too difficult. As long as you don't mind not min/maxing your farming, just leave it on the tree until you need to eat. As long as it's on the tree and you're keeping it watered, it'll never spoil.

As far as I’ve observed , they have the same effect as it’s been said above . But if you have a decent size garden, planting one of each tree will guarantee a steady stream of gauze that will only cost one coconut and one lashing , while the bandage is dearer.
If you play coop , though , bandage is the way to go: you can be resuscitated by your mate, and if you are poisoned and your mate give you the bandage, thr poison will be cured as well without having to use antidote. Very handy .

Just to add to this, there is one slight not-so-obvious difference between the two: in an emergency situation when you have neither, it's far easier to craft a bandage than gauze. You can land on a random island and are almost guaranteed to get the materials for a bandage (1 cloth and 1 lashing) while you'd have to get really lucky to get enough ingredients to make gauze.

You are right, never thought of that. And it's another big difference between playing nomadic and playing with home base and garden.
