Stranded Deep
Do palm trees respawn?
I'm still new to the game I guess, bought it a few day ago, and enjoying it very much so far. But... water is seeming to be very limited. Having a collecter barely keeps up with the hydration, in addition to drinking coconuts, and too much coconuts seems to make you sick. The palm fronds used to create the water can be found by chopping down trees, but chopping down every tree on an island just in order to stay hydrated doesn't seem like a good idea....

It doesn't seem conducive to building up a base if water and the fronds to make it are finite.

Fibrous Leaves can be used in-lieu of palm fronds to fuel water stills at an identical rate once you run out of the latter.

Thanks! Its actually good to know the Young palm tree fiber can work in stills too; since they are renewable and don't actually require chopping down all my shady trees.

The game could make that a little clearer though. Among lots of other things, I suppose.

I made a newbie day 2 mistake of letting my raft drift away during a storm swell. So my first run was a 7 day adventure trying to survive on one island; and a scarcity of rocks soon meant my tools would wear out, and I'd just have to swim for it (didn't make it...sharks.)

No problem. I’m glad I could help.

Sorry to hear that you got devoured. I’d suggest keeping a spear on your person whenever you cross the ocean just in case a shark decides to tangle with you. Melee isn’t ideal, but it works well enough to make attackers flee long enough for you to escape. This is especially true when you advance far enough to get ranged weaponry.

A vegetable garden with several trees Kuro solves the problem with water.
Trees should be planted at the beginning of the rain to save water on irrigation.
Do not collect the entire crop at once until the fruits hang on the tree they will not be spoiled

Fibrous leaves not only work as "fuel" for the water stills, it also can be burned in place of sticks in the fire pit and fuel still... since it respawns, you have a virtually endless supply of water... and fire.

thank you for resurrecting a mostly out of date thread.

Things that are no longer correct:
"Of all the base raw materials (wood, rocks, and fibers), they are the only ones that do so."
- fibrous leaves respawn
- rock nodes respawn*
- clay nodes respawn*

* spawning mechanic for rock and clay are different than normal. Will not elaborate.

"A vegetable garden with several trees Kuro solves the problem with water.

Do not collect the entire crop at once until the fruits hang on the tree they will not be spoiled"
- you can't predict the rain so this tip is kind of pointless. Building them while it's raining, even at the start, is kind of a waste since you do not maximize their exposure to the rain
- collecting crops from trees do prevent them from spoiling, but then you're wasting water to keep that fruit ripe. Better to just collect it and let new fruits grow
- a new mechanic since this thread was made: plantable yucca trees. Needing to conserve water is kind of a thing of the past.

"Fibrous leaves not only work as "fuel" for the water stills, it also can be burned in place of sticks in the fire pit and fuel still... since it respawns, you have a virtually endless supply of water... and fire."
-They're also used for crafting lashing and cloth

So, the ficus, yuccas, etc, will never respawn again, by themselves?
A little palm tree will never grow to be a palm tree?

Yucca plants respawn their fibrous leaves but ficus do not respawn currently and little palms do not grow into palm trees no.
