You really shouldn't be worrying about fuel stills. The things that need fuel aren't exactly critical to surviving longterm. Gyrocopters are really only good for scouting since it has no additional storage space (not to mention are also very fuel hungry) and boat motors aren't very maneuverable (I prefer just using a sail most of the time) and are really only marginally better when you know exactly where you're going and are travelling a relatively straight line.
Then again I'm the type that prefers spending the majority of the game building shelters and other structures so that's just my take on it.
