Stranded Deep
Thing I just learned
If you don't want to use a lot of your axe durability and are making planks, just drag the whole tree to your plank station. Still have to chop for sticks, but don't have to waste durability for planks.

Just remember that if you want to to keep the palm bunches (best to keep them bunched for transport as they stack 4 high, allowing you to keep the vigilante of 5 frond stacks in one stack), be sure to chop the bunch off of the top of the tree first, otherwise you won't be able to pick the bunch up.

Yea I made that mistake with 8 trees when I realized I could make planks without cutting the individual logs. Now I got a pile of palm fronds to decide whether or not to transfer from one island to another.

If you make planks without chopping off the palm bunch, you can't put the palm bunches in a crate.... but just save (build a shelter, or use a sleeping bag), exit and come right back into the game and the palm bunches can then be picked up and put in a crate.

Your obsession with axe durabilty is intriguing. (I saw you mentioning it before) It's true there's not as much stone as for instance the ever regrowing fibrous leaves but there's more than enough to last hundreds of days. Easy to reach as well as soon as you have a basic sailing raft, which you should be able to craft by the first or second day on your island.

I just don't like having to recraft tools so often. It's why I hardly use the good hammers you can find in crates. I usually use crude axes till they're below 10%, then make them refined just to stretch them out.

I'd rather waste my good tools that I know I can recraft/find later than bang my head against the wall waiting for a slower tool to do the job. I can be doing something else with the time i'm wasting with slower tools... like getting a hug from a shark dolphin.

I agree with ArcBiter I dont have the patience eather, times a wasting. Also if you make a plank station with your old axe, then destroy it you`ll get back a 100 percent axe back.
