What can we do about "empty campfire" ?

Very intresting game with improvements in continuation. Currently wondering about the campfire. It burns for awhile and then it becomes useless. There must be a way to "clean it up" or something because if you found the perfect spot for a campfire just stay there, I don't like to start a million camptires all over the island.....

hold sticks and /or fiberous materials in your hand and aim at the fire... the cursor will indicate to hold E (default) to add materials to refuel the fire.

I usually keep the fire burning long enough to cook whatever raw foods i have and then extinguish it after cooking (point at fire and hold E to put fire out) to conserve fuel.

thats what I tried to do 1st time as I'm a bit of a Long Dark Veteran but it did not let me do that. I only used the "tinder", I probably should look at the tutorial vids that eagle eye suggested
