Broken Bones - What to do?
Hello, I've broken my bones from falling from a height, the wiki says use morphine, but I understand that a few updates have passed since that article.

Is there a new way to fix broken bones, or will it heal over time?

There's not a cure for broken bones anymore, but it depends on a few things...
  • If you're playing on the experimental and have saved the game with broken bones there's nothing you can do.
    You will slowly lose all your health because the broken bones status won't go away and it will prevent you from regaining health.

  • If you are playing on the latest stable version there might be a chance that it will go away over time, some have reported that poisoning went away by itself perhaps this also applies to broken bones.

  • If you haven't saved the game after breaking bones then your best bet it is to not do it and just reload the game using the last save.

Poision, Illness, Diarrhoea, Sunstroke will heal with time.
Broken bones won't heal with time. but it won't reduce health, calories or fluids....

You are absolutely right that broken bones itself won't reduce health, but it will prevent you from regaining health as long you have broken bones.
Every little thing that subtracts health, a pinch from a crab, a few second of having an empty hunger or thirst bar, a few seconds of too much sun... You name it, they all add up and you will slowly lose your health, 1 health bar at a time until it reach 1 and a later 0 - Problem is broken bones will doom your save game, trust me my save game is after having broken bones for roughly 20 days and that is bad! :/

Thanks to everyone for commenting, a fresh new game like this is hard to find info about online.

To hear it can't heal pains my heart </3 any chance that's gonna change soon? I may as well start a new game already before i die.

I had this same problem and saved without knowing there wasn't a fix, so I've been playing with broken bones for a while now. I got tired of it since a bug gave me the borken bones in the first place, so I found a way. If you want to fix your game to remove broken bones... there is a way to do a minor file edit and remove that effect. Normally I wouldn't suggest this, but since it is the experimental version, and currently there is no fix, it's the only way to save all your hard work if you don't want to start over.

I'd be happy to help someone looking to save their doomed game, but I don't want to post the instructions here for people to abuse and/or break their game. Message me privately for help if you need it.

I removed broken bones by modifying the save file.

It's under:
C:\Users\(username)\Documents\Stranded Deep\Data\Experimental\(bunch of random numbers)

I don't know anything about programming and have little computer experience. The saved game is the ".json" file. I opened it under Word. I was first alarmed by the 2560 page file size. It grows with every saved game, so i's normal to have a slow loading time.

Of course, don't do any of this unless you've made a back-up and thought this through.

Near the beginning of this file you will see something similar to:
"PlayerEffects":{"[0]PlayerEffect":{"EffectName":"BROKEN_BONES","DisplayName":"BROKEN BONES","WaterEffectRate":"0","CalorieEffectRate":"0","TemperatureEffectRate":"0","HealthEffectRate":"0","Duration":"-1","StartedTime":{"Year":"2018","Month":"7","Day":"23","Hour":"4","Minute":"10","Second":"8"},"PositiveEffect":false}}},

Change the following values:
"Duration":"-1"
to
"Duration":"12"

The negative number keeps the Broken Bones state indefinate, so changing this number to another, say... 12 would indicate 12 hours of Broken Bones. After this period has passed from the started time, Broken Bones disappears.

By the way, you can change "Broken Bones" to any text you please. That's done by changing:
"DisplayName":"BROKEN BONES"
to
"DisplayName":"FEELING ANNOYED"

Hope this helps.

Oh I just saw this... I will hide my instructions under a spoiler. I hope that's ok...? I don't want to make problems and yet I realize the effort it takes to survive with Broken Bones, since there's no way to increase health with it ongoing.
