I recommend buying it for sure.
Now some legal issues hindering its completion. (not the devs fault)
Its one of the most unique games in the the survival genre but its also one of the weakest as it runs out of tricks the quickest. but what is there is pretty solid now at least in terms of stability.
The Devs seem like good guys, they have been very much on the ball with stomping bugs but mistakes were made in the further development of the game. Plus some bad luck.
Is Abandoned Deep (yes that was a joke) worth 15 bucks? - Id say yes overall. Could it have been richer in content? - Yes.
Will it ever come out of its current Limbo state, Don't know?
So its a case of 'I'd recomend it, but......'
Threads merged, since this question comes up regularly.
The main differences between Stranded Deep and other survival games are:
1) SD is yet unfinished.
2) SD is PvE, there are no zombies or other humanoid enemies.
Scroll up to find some opinions. I much agree with this one:
Games i would recommend:
- Raft
- 7daystodie
- Bermuda
You can't recover resources if you build something mistakenly and want to get rid of it. It's been like that since the beginning. The thing you took down just turn into a giant cube and sinks into the ground. They seem to have gotten over this by just making the things you find (like tarps and planks etc.) far, far more abundant.
I'm sure you used to get sun burn in this game but they seem to have taken it out. It's less about struggling for survival and more about slowly floating between islands to find a rock or a stick. And the dynamics of ocean travel are abysmal.
You can't check your vitals while using a boat, or even look around properly. You can rotate your sail but it doesn't seem to make any difference where it's pointing. I don't know. I can keep adding to the list of things that always ruin the game for me but I think I've said enough.
More importantly it gets boring real, real fast. The Long Dark is a far more harrowing and fulfilling survival experience. I always hoped this would be like that but with oceans and boats.
It's not. It's not even survival. It's just grind and sleep and grind and sleep. I think I usually just die of boredom rather than difficulty surviving.
