3 months out of the year I had to use them
I understand what you're saying but you do bring up a thought I had the other day... (and yes, I will post this in suggestions)
Meat should "stage down" when consumed... Basically having 1, 2, or 3 bites available depending on size and maybe "step down" to the next smallest meat size when you consume a portion - like small vanishing, naturally, med stepping down to small, large stepping down to med.
No change to the hunger bars they fill, though, just doled out in portions. Like if 1 small meat fills 1 bar, 1 large meat would fill 1 bar three times (three bites)
I don't know what difficulty setting you are on, but I am guessing that it is normal, fx I play on hard and my game started in the beginning of March giving me High UV every day and everything seems to be mostly doubled or halved on hard, need for food, water, speed of regrow, harvesting, damage from predators, speed of sickness etc. basically everything seems to be roughly twice as hard, but still it is manageable once you adapt to it :)
Your UV may be higher depending on what time of year you play, that may off course be a factor, but spend some time fishing, exploring wrecks under water, travel with your raft during the hottest hours :)
Doesmt custom islands make it easier anyway? Talk about making the game easier....they sure do!!!
Kind of reminds me of 7 Days to Die where the water used in a recipe consumes the glass jar as well. That can't be good for ones intestinal tract....
Since coconuts seem to be a finite resource it would be a little more reasonable if the coconut flasks weren't consumed when using the aloe salve, antidote, etc..
You must have one hell of a garden to produce 2 aloe vera a day during the summer months. ;)
Nevertheless; the new raft canopy keeps me from getting fried when sailing between islands now and hiding in the shade when getting sunstroke seems to help a lot more than it did before.
