Wow that is sick, you guys are waiting over an year that the items assigned to a belt aren't in your backpack?

i came from stranded deep ps4 and there it is like that! now i bought it on pc because of the new map layout... and then i discovered this, so stupid! why can this be done for console and not on pc?

also all my assigned hotkeys always dissappear again after a reload., also when i drop an item.

It is sad to admit as a PC player, but yes, I must agree with this.

Tnaks for this thread. I often wonder what the toolbelt was used for. Now I see it is pretty useless.
Neonsmiley 2020 年 8 月 20 日 上午 11:10
It is. I don't think anyone uses it. Hopefully they will change it so that you can 'hang' one tool on each slot without using back pack space.

Exactly. Thats what I meant. It is kinda useful but it should be extra carrying capacity aside from our backpacks where we can put only tools and nothing else. IMO.

It works on PC but you also need the tool in your backpack for it to be on your toolbelt. If you have it in your toolbelt, it shouldnt take up space in your backback.

Exactly, its a tool belt. TOOL, BELT! Not a transdimensional portal to your ever present backpack... :)

For PC the Toolbelt is just for assigning Hotkeys to it, only that they get lost when you drop the Item from your Inventory :(

The numbers at the bottom of your screen correspond to the total number of tool belt slots available to you once you've crafted all of the tool belts—which is 10 slots. The more you craft, the more slots you have available for use: For example, after you craft the first tool belt… one slot becomes available to you—which means you can assign one item for quick access to your tool belt. As you craft more tool belts, more of the slots will unlock (up to 10). The numbers are locked to the numbers at the top of your keyboard. So, if you want to access the item in the #1 slot, press the number 1 at the top of your keyboard.

How to bind items into the slots: There are two different ways to do this...

1) Hold an item in your hands, and press (and hold) the number you want that item to bind to. Remember, you have to have that slot/number unlocked to use it.

2) Go into your inventory and point at an item. While still pointing, press (and hold) the number at the top of your keyboard that you want that item to correspond to.

I usually use the tool belt on two occasions:

1) When I go into the water, I bind my spears so I can quickly access them if a shark appears.

2) When I'm cutting fibrous leaves at night, I bind to my cutting tool and a light source.

If you have a programmable mouse, you'll be able to access your items much more quickly by sending the command to one of your mouse buttons. This comes in handy when you're suddenly attacked by a shark and need your weapons immediately.

BTW, these tool belt slots do not give you additional inventory space; all they do is give you quick access to items that are already in your backpack.

Woe is me, I spend 20 minutes looking for an answer to this question when all I needed to do was hold the number key half a second longer!
Things on a tool belt shouldn't take up a backpack slot..it's illogical. I hope this changes in one of the next updates, even if it means downsizing the 'hotkey' tool belt.
yeah i spent the last half hour in game being annoyed because i couldnt sort it out and my inventory space was so small

What in the frak?!? A tool belt that links to your backpack?!?!? SERIOUSLY? How the heck would that work in RL? I just don't get this. What's the point?

Maybe it's a tool-belt with little notes, that show you which back-pack slot your "quick-access" items are in, so you just look down at one of the notes on your belt, and you're like: "Oh yeah!! It's in the outer-pocket, left side." And then you can "quick-access" your item in the backpack?

Beats me...

Or maybe each "quick slot" on the belt, corresponds to a different color string/yarn/rope that you can pull, which is attached to a pocket/sleeve/compartment on your backpack. You pull the string , the compartment opens, and the "quick slot" item drops out , into your hand! Voila! Mystery solved.

I agree with this. Items on your belt are on your belt, not in your backpack. What's the use of a quick slot besides combat? I can switch items just as fast from the backpack, there should be a benefit of extra space from making a tool belt. Otherwise it's just a waste of mats.

Also, when playing co op, players using a controller are limited to 4 slots total. There is no use in the last upgrade.
i also think that we should be able to make a backpack increasing your carrying capability i mean you have leather you have cloth why the heck cant you make a bag? i also heartily agree tools on the toolbelt should not take up space otherwise why would you have to craft the darn thing? thats just a waste of resources otherwise.... also you should be able to Craft chests and such to hold items in i mean you can make a raft why not a chest?
