Stranded Deep
Clay....I just can't find it...
So on 0.53 Experimental. I have one custom island I am basing off of. However all I have on that island is clay blocks, I need the raw clay to make the furnace and then clay water pots. However, I have NEVER been able to find clay deposits underwater. Can anyone post a screenshot of what they might look like? Also, does anyone know if clay deposits are available on experimental islands? Maybe that's my problem. Odds are though I just can't find it..lol.

They look just like the stone nodes that you can mine on land. Stone nodes are grey (on land), clay nodes are brownish/tan colored (underwater). I've noticed a lot of custom maps that didn't have clay nodes unless the creator of the custom island added them. Sorry, I don't have a screen shot of one.

I'm having a problem with clay too. Except it's less about finding it, and more about when I mine it, it goes exploding off into the distance into some corals or kelp, never to be found again. Sometimes the clay just stays put so I can grab it but not all of it.

Most islands have about 6 clay nodes (underwater). You get 6 chunks of clay from each node and yes, it seems that when you mine it the 4th chunk always flies off under the foliage somewhere and you have to hunt for it.

So am I hunting in the right places would be the next question? As I noted, I tend to hunt near any big rocks but also right in the zone where the shelf falls off to deeper water without going into the blackness. Right around where I find cod.

That's where I find most of my clay: the shallow-ish waters between islands and the big drop-off. Imagine there being enough room for a shark... because you just know as soon as you start cutting some clay, a shark WILL show up.
