Farming
Is farming really worth it? Based on my limited experience with it it honestly feels like you don't get back the investment you put into it.

I'm not even sure if fully grown plants give you back a seed to re-sow and one to keep for other purposes.

Since wild plants don't grow back, totally worth it unless you are in the habit of constantly reloading islands to refresh their resources. Also great for stuff that spoils since, iirc, you don't get as much fuel from spoiled potatoes as you do fresh, meaning that by the time you get back to base with a load of potatoes, you might get 1/2 the fuel you will from starting a few farms, planting those, and then harvesting fresh.

Also, Ajuga isn't in the Map Editor as a placable item for custom islands and only spawns MAYBE 1 or 2 per procedural island and 2 are needed for breath boost, so farming those, especially, has a huge payoff in the end.

If you keep your plot watered it will keep reproducing you don't have to replant any seeds. To keep creating the in-game consumables you really need to farm, the only other way would be to keep adding new islands all the time to obtain the ingredients as they don't regrow in the wild :(

Guess I'm just new to farming. Memory may have been faulty. I'm pretty sure when I harvested some pipi from one of my plots I only got one and the plant didn't grow another.

Unless that was somehow ninja'd in between 0.54 and the most recent experimental build, that's not the case. 4 spoiled potatoes fill up a fully empty jerry can just like 4 fresh potatos.

I've been playing on the experimental version, and the farming works better than it did a year ago. It's been more reliable than I remember and I get crop after crop of potatoes which I use for gyrocopter fuel. If you want to make enough fuel, you need to grow potatoes. Also growing pipi and aloe is very useful!

I think it takes the same number of spoiled potatoes as fresh potatoes to make the fuel, so you can grow crop after crop and stockpile the potatoes until you get a still.

Farming is a grind, I have restarted and played several new games and found that making farm plots as soon as possible is the best way to go. I usually craft at least one water still for each two plots. In my opinion one needs at least two pipi, two ajuga, two aloe and four potato plots with 6 or so stills. When looting other islands I use the night time when I can't see in the water to harvest plenty of fiberous leaves to fill the stills on return and watering the plots. I haven't tried farming the yucca. it seems to me that the return of leaves would barely support the need of the watering the yucca plot and produce very little excess to use otherwise.

Can palms be farmed for fibrous leaves and wood too?

Yucca can be farmed, not sure if the return is worth it.

yucca farms just make it easier so you dont have to keep going out and scavenge for them. also saves resources from your knives(dont need to keep making as many) because you wont need to harvest the small palm trees to get the fiber leaves.

ANYONE know what the walaluva(cant spell) plants are used for????

sometime in the past couple updates the farming supposedly started giving double yield when harvesting plots...

Once you start farming, you have to tend the farms and keep them watered to keep the plants growing and giving multiple harvests.... if the plot gets dry, the plant dies and you have to start over.

Yucca can be grown/farmed for fibrous leaves... wood does not re-grow in this game.
