There are many different ways to deal with them...
You can kill them on sight to get peace.
You can dive during storms which seems to scare them away.
You can try to dodge their attacks while diving.
Edit to confirm I was attacked and killed by a tiger shark while diving during a storm :(
So since this was the topic I recall from the other day, I just started to hunt these to explore some more elusive wrecks. I killed my 1st then lost it's dead body before I could drag it. I was in a battle with at least 2 of them.
To be clear these were near sunken wrecks, fairly deep (not visible above water) about a mile or so off my home island (no visible above water wrecks there). So I killed a tiger, my son thought he seen a reef shark (I'm not sure what it was). But he had joined the battle about 10 minutes before my kill.
So I'm curious about the 72 hour respawn thing. Since I felt I wasn't at a level or skill yet to waste a bunch of bows and spears I gave up on it and went back to resource gathering.
1) Does the sharks with the spears in them stay at the bottom, or are they gone with my spears?
2) Do the injured sharks still have bows in them? In other words can I go hunt the other 2 or 3. I noticed the next day a stingray I accidentally hit (thinking it was a shark) still had a bow in it.
3) Any other strategy advice is appreciated. Otherwise I'll just experiment a little when I feel safe. The feeling I get of danger is very cool for this game.
You can see your amount of Shark number and respawn time if you open your json file and search for the word "PATROL_TIGERSHARK"
This is an example

Hey SurvivorSam, I've seem to notice that so long as you stay in the vicinity of the island where you initialize the attack, your weapons will stay intact. However, if you travel off to another island, then return, your equipment will be missing.
My tactic in hunting the sharks, is to approach my dive site, then kill the shark with my spear gun. Takes 9 hits to kill a tiger shark, though I've dug up to 10 speargun arrows from them occassionally. I'll harvest arrows first, then skin, then dive the wreck, resurfacing as much as possible to save the illusive airtanks. In fact, I don't even hit a burst from my tank until AFTER I run out of air completely. I haven't encountered any Great Whites as of yet, though I've seen a fin or two at night and wondering if it may be them.
I travel to another island and return, the sharks have almost always reloaded under this circumstance. I've not noticed an actual reload time.
Alive 144 days and definitely stable. I could easliy stay alive for 20 days from current point and not gather any more food.
