Having trouble constructing fire pit

Everytime i go to build a fire pit i keep getting the same message, "i can't build here-theres something in the way". Now i have watched quite a few youtube vids on constructing fire and building them but this is to avail as everything i try does not work. I have tried dropping the rocks around the campfire and directly over the campfire and it does not matter i just keep getting that same message??? I have even tried and made sure their was nothing around it but still no dice. Suggestions\help plz!!!

My suggestion is to craft a new camp fire with good free space around it and see if you can attach a fire pit to it :)

This sounds very strange, are you sure that you haven't got any items and materials near the camp fire while trying to place the fire pit? (keep the stones needed in your inventory)
If you could provide a screenshot(F12) of when you try to place the fire pit, it would help a lot :)

The pile of stones around the camp fire is why the game says there's something in the way, pick them all up(E key) and try again, you should have no problem placing the fire pit then :)
