Super newbie question - How do I get lashings?

Been a while since I've played. It used to start you with a knife so you could cut stuff to get the lashings. Now it starts you with nothing and I need to craft a refined knife, however, I have no clue how to get the lashings? Can someone please help me figure this out?

You need to hit Yucca or the Young Palm Trees(Very small) and collect Fibrous Leaves, you make lashings from those :)

Craft a stone tool and wack yuccas and baby palms then craft lashings with the drops they give.

efficient method is 1 yucca + 2 nearby small palms = 2 lashing

So what is the goal after setting up a shelter? Like what's the end goal?

Right now survive as long as you can as its an open world sandbox so to speak ...end scenario/s are coming though :)

I'm familiar with the genre, it's probably my favorite. The Forest is another favorite of mine. I just know The Forest had the "story" of finding your kid. Either way, SD is a great game and I will continue playing. Appreciate all the helpful replies.
