Is this really as bad as the reviews say?
This isnt to start a flame war. I honestly want to know if the game is as bad as its reviewed. The screenshots look awesome and I love city building sims. I would apprectiate any input.

Do you own the other Cities XL's or is this your first one?

First one. I got into Sim City 4 a couple of years back. Now I am looking for a different city builder to get into. I saw this was on sale so I was curious.

If you love city builders; go with Cities Skylines. First time players will like CXXL but Cities Skylines is more detailed. You get to create districts and set polices for each district. The mod community is much more active in CS.

I wanted to like it but I've playes since the very first Cities XL in '09 and it's just recycled and buggy like the previous iterations. It could of been a great franchise but Focus destroyed it. I personally prefer Cities Skylines. I think CS is on sale also

Unbelievable!
That they can call this a new game and charge you for it. BOOM!

Yeah, alot of the reviews sayed to just buy Cities Skyline as well. Thats too bad, I like a good sale but if the game is that bad, I will be better off just waiting on the other to go on sale, if it isnt already. Thanks for the info, Mike.

Most negative review about who have previous own Cities XL bcoz looks very same as new one. If you dont have own previous XL and first time own Cities XXL, this should u buy it if u like city editor simulation but it doesnt have disaster and crime to destroy ur cities. U start building from a small cities can build it and a lot of locked buildings that u must go increase populations to unlocked all buildings. The graphic so beautiful and very details even when zoom closely your city that CS cant it. Moreover, mods are always best and amazing to plays as recommend to more enjoys, visit the main mods community here: 'xlnations.city'. If you want to know the gameplay, Watch at Cities XXL community hub videos and look the screenshots it.

focus did that for most of their titles haha they do have a few very few that a re legit working titles with suport after release

this game they even lied about dlc and content

the only patch they did was fix the bugs they made by modding this game into xxl.....

I played one of the previous Cities XL games, can't remember which one, and it had performance problems as the city grew larger. I had played for maybe 2-3 hours and it already became unbearable with the low framerate. Is this any better in that regard? I love the idea with very large cities, but it doesn't seem to work that well in practice.

Furthermore, it felt like there weren't a lot of challenges in Cities XL. In Cities Skylines you have for instance to do very careful planning of the road network to not get any traffic congestions, while in Cities XL you just draw your building zones without any thought basically.

Lastly it felt like Cities XL was just inhabited by a blob of people, while Cities Skylines has a city of individual people who live, drive their car to work, etc.

I dunno, I really wanted to like Cities XL when I played it, but it didn't feel like it was well executed to be honest.

What are your thoughts?

Yeah, and I find it so hard to believe that the creators behind Cities XXL wouldn't have made any imporevment from previous games. They must know that their cusomers wouldn't accept a copy-paste of their previous title. So I'm also curious about the legitimacy behind the Steam reviews.

Exactly this game is not so bad - I think, it could be the greatest alternative to SimCity4, but devs are #$%&... :( They selling bugfixing patches to the Cities:XL andn ame them a new game... No appropriate support, some weird things in gameplay because of luck of documentations - i think, that's why this game is not the best sim ever made. So my review would be bad just because of that - this is cool game, I love it very much, but lazy and greedy devs is a great minus.

I also had a lot of problems initially playing the game. I couldn't even get in. Technical assistance helped for a little while then they just stopped emailing me. I gave up with the game. Finally after months of tinkering with the game, I got it to work.

There really is no challenge in CXXL. Yes the graphics are nice but that's all it has going for it. CS may not have super stellar graphics like CXXL but it's more realistic.

At least the highway is more realistic in CS that CXXL. In CS, you individually build the highway (parkway to us Americans :) in both directions and place the onramp however you want.

My profile is not hidden lol :) The only reason why I don't have hundreds of playingtime on CS is because work takes up most of my time and then when I come home, I can't play until my 4 yr old is sleeping :)
