The new maps were good.
Could you give more insight as to why wait until Denuvo is removed? I am not familiar with the controversy. I just played the entire campaign with a buddy and it was an absolute blast so I am unaware of the Denuvo thing.
You could be waiting 10 years for it to be removed, or it may never be removed. If you want the game just buy the game. It's super cheap right now and worth every cent - just make sure you buy the Deluxe edition with all the characters, maps, and extras.
FYI - the store page still says: Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: Denuvo Antitamper
You can see it happening on video here: Can't play MH:Rise because of DRM (live in front of 60k viewers)[clips.twitch.tv]
Also if Denuvo servers are down on their side, games without a valid activation token will not start, online or not: https://www.pcgamer.com/uk/a-great-day-for-drm-as-denuvo-lapse-renders-tons-of-games-temporarily-unplayable/
People also recently reported that it seems to trigger a 24 hour lockout if you play games on desktop computer and switch to the Steam Deck, or switch Proton layers: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1687950/discussions/0/3489752656786031116/?ctp=2#c3489752656790504351
A few developers did come on record citing performance issues for refusing to use it: https://www.pcgamer.com/humankind-drops-denuvo-ahead-of-launch-to-avoid-performance-problems/.
I've had fun with this game, but Rebellion charges way too much for niche games. They do the same with Nazi Zombie Army. Wait for a sale. This is a fun game, but absolutely not worth full price.
The characters skills are mostly garbage. The weapons are mostly garbage. The upgrades are mostly garbage and the progression system is bare bones.
The shooting is average. The enemy variety is great as well as the atmosphere and level design. This is a $20 game.
