Sniper Elite 5 has same problem as 4 with regards to "target box/diamond"
I would have thought the problem in 3/4 (I dare say it was in Sniper Elite V2) with regards to the "target diamond/reticle" would have been fixed, but after watching a Sniper Elite 5 long shot video, I can see it STILL has that targeting problem, where the bullet physics (wind, gravity, muzzle velocity, bullet drop etc.) either stop applying or simply do NOT apply at all correctly if you're not aiming at the correct "hit box" of your targets.

This is most noticeable if you enable the aim assist diamond and then make the same shot on the same target with it disabled. You'll notice when enabled, the diamond changes from red to grey when indicating that your shot won't hit, but it'll do this EVEN if your actually aiming in the correct spot simply because your reticle at that point is not "aligned" with the target's "hit box" (the red or yellow corner bars that indicate that you're aiming at a target).

This is problematic, since without aim assist, you can easily be aiming EXACTLY where you need to, but just because your reticle isn't within the target's "hit box area", the invisible diamond turns grey, making your shots NOT apply, even if they technically should be hitting the target. This would explain most people's complaints about aiming at a target, but just because the reticle wasn't "properly" over the target, the bullet physics didn't properly apply.

To note, the first Sniper Elite game NEVER had this problem. You either were zeroed in on your target, or not, regardless of where your reticle was aiming. Basically, the bullet physics would apply evenly at all times, so you hitting the target simply depended on compensating for the gravity, bullet drop, muzzle velocity, and wind, and if those things were properly taken into account, the bullet would hit. It wasn't always a kill shot, but that's what made it realistic. Not ALL shots are fatal.

in SE4 ( The game this discussion section is intended for.. not SE5 that the Op is talking about) the game takes target movement into account for infantry and will have the diamond marker highlight red slightly in front of your target rather than directly on them if they are running. this is more noticeable at longer ranges around 300m and above.
the game does not however take this into account for vehicle movement to hit the weak points and disable them, you have to adjust for those yourself or just take shots while they are coming at you or going away from you.

in SE5 I have Never had an issue aiming as Op describes. If I put the diamond on what I want to shoot even if it doesn't highlight to say its on target ( as with extreme range shots beyond the rifles recommended maximum distance) I still get hits, usually not lethal hits but hits just the same.
